Boots with G3

can't go wrong with these mid-range Freestones. I've worn out 3 pair in 10 years, only change them out because the soles get worn slick after about 200-250 miles

The Simms Boa, G3, & G4 boots cost more, but they all have vibram soles which last longer than the rubber soled boots like the Freestones. I bought my G3’s in 2012 and they still have a lot of life left in them.
 
This season will be year six for my G-4 boots and waders. I use the heck out of them each year for spring bear canoe hunts, pack-raft floats, and moose hunts. The waders and boots are both still going strong with no failures whatsoever.
 
Can only comment on my G3’s, very pleased with them from my Northern Brooks caribou hunt, will be wearing them this year for moose. Sized up for the waders, no issues or complaints.
 
All 3 of us used Simms Freestone boots. We trained, hiked and waded with them and were very impressed.

Just starting to learn the ropes on Simm's waders so forgive me if this question displays some ignorance, but how were the Freestone's for warmth?
Edit: To all who have posted in this thread regarding having used the G-4's, Guide boots, etc. how are they for warmth when the temps fall below freezing and even into the teens?

We all wore merino socks underneath the booty and only the coldest mornings when we weren't moving, our feet got cold but that didn't last long. As soon as the sun came up over the mountains or if we started moving our feet warmed back up. Temps ranged from 28 lows - 58 highs

I know you weren’t asking me, warmth will depend on the neoprene in the wader boots and the socks you have underneath your waders. Wading boots just fill with water and offer. On insulation, just support and traction/grip.

For me, the colder I get, the wetter I feel. Last year while on a float hunt I honestly thought my foot was wet, I was kissed thinking my Simms were leaking. When I got them off...dry. Just cold.
 
I cannot report on durability yet because I literally just got the box in the mail a few weeks ago. But I got the Simms flyweight boots. They aren’t super big and clunky but feel to have plenty of support. I’ll use them to fish all summer. But mostly I’ll probably be hitting the salmon streams in the evenings looking for Mr. Big Brownie. I can report back after a season of use.

Those are good boots, honestly they are probably the better choice if you are planning to do tons of walking.

...sorry for my delayed response to your question...I just got off the river yesterday after ten-days, and flew home late last night.

It's actually good timing for my response because I bought a pair of G-3 boots to wear for the first time on this float. My previous quoted response to the G-4 was a year and a half ago. Last fall the G-4's starting hurting around my ankle after a couple months of frequent and sometimes continuous wear last fall. I can say that the G-3 boots were totally comfortable after ten-days of continuous wear...the ankle fit for me felt more comfortable after extensive wear. The G-4's never started bothering me until last year after six years of wear, so go figure...maybe I finally wore them out.
