Boot Waterproofing

Just bought a new pair of Crispi Nevada boots (all leather), and am wondering what everyone uses to waterproof their boots?

Depends on their construction. If you have a rubber rand around the boot then make sure to use something water based like nik wax or something similar. Oil based products like Obenhaufs can interact with the glue that holds the rand to the leather and it may come apart. With that being said, I think Obenhaufs works just as well or better than anything else so if your rubber rand is stitched instead of glued or if you dont have a rand on the boot then Obenhaufs is great. If you do, then I like nikwax.

I have the same boots and love them. I put the Synergy footbed in them and they're the most comfortable boots I have ever worn.

I have obernaufs lp with success on a pair of boots with a rand. Will be using it on my new zamberlans with rubber rand. Hopefully it doesn't delaminate we will see. The reviews on nikwax I have read are bad enough I wouldn't use it.

I have 2 empty containers of NikWax. Absolute waste of time and money. To be fair, I also worked in half a container of Mink Oil on those same boots with the same result.

Obernaufs is on my mindels with the tall rand. Have yet to notice any separation and water just runs off. I also had poor results from nik wax on my danners and switched to Obernaufs

For you guys who use obenhaufs, do you use their leather cleaner product each season or just reapply the oil/paste combination? I typically just use the paste but if the leather is looking really dried out I'll hit it with some oil before hand.

I haven't used any cleaner just water stiff brush knock everything off and reapply. There is probably a better way but it's been working for me

Thats essentially what I do as well. Do you use both the oil and paste each year?

Just the paste warm boot on the dryer and rub it in

I've had good results with Kenetrek Waterproof Boot Wax and see no reason to change. Two or three treatments each season is pretty much all it takes. After applying the wax, I either set my boots out in the sun or use a hair dryer to set it into the leather. Good stuff.

I first use Sno-Seal silicone waterproofing to impregnate the leather, then follow that with Sno-Seal beeswax waterproofing. Beeswax won't break down the leather or stitching, and is breathable. In two trips to Colorado, wearing my Lowa Tibets, my feet have yet to get wet, and the leather is in good shape. They are gore tex, and both products are ok with the membrane. Just did it this afternoon in preparation for my hunt that's just days away. A hair dryer helps the leather suck in the beeswax.

I use Nikwax and own the same boots (I love them btw, first time I've said that about boots in nearly 20 years).
