Hey, I’m a new hunter looking to start whitetail deer hunting this year. I have a tikka 30-06 that absolutely beats me to death, so I am going to treat myself to a Tikka T3x Lite Stainless in 6.5 creed or 243 this year. (Suggestions on which one is welcome)

Reading around I have made my mind up and plan on getting UM Tikka Rings.

I want a good set and forget scope in the 2-10, 3-9, 3-10 range that will hold zero riding in a ATV in the mountains. I also will be hiking a lot with it on my back and falling does and will happen. Especially when crossing creeks and stuff in the mountains during the winter months. Whitetail is the primary animal I’ll be hunting along with coyotes (mainly to manage my whitetail population).

Which optic do you guys recommend. Preferably around the 500-750 dollar range. I’d cheaper, then that’s even better. If a little more expensive. I’ll save.

Trijicon Credo 3-9x40 would be great for that purpose. $600 & can be had cheaper. Illumination. Decent Mil reticle. Passes the drop tests.
I just put that scope on a Tikka 6.5 CM for a friend with a very similar use case as yours.

*Removed link to Euro Optic, as maybe you can find a click through link on Rokslide. In any case, they are who I would order from. Rokslide sponsor and will offer a discount if you ask.

Another suggestion for Trijicon. AccuPoint if you want fiber optic and tritium or Huron if you prefer a non illuminated option. I know the Credo gets great reviews here and I wouldn’t hesitate to try one if I wanted illumination. Just haven’t used one myself.

A Trijicon Credo or Accupoint would be a solid choice. I have those two on my current wishlist.

So would an SWFA. I am putting together a Tikka 6.5 CM right now. I currently have an SWFA 10x on it. It will be for whitetails and also developing my long range proficiency (only on targets though).

The other scope that is well-regarded around here is the Maven RS1.2.

And for whitetails, I would personally get the .243, but both cartridges are excellent and have a wide selection of effective bullets. I had a very nice one shot, DRT kill with my .243 last year.

I saw a lot of SWFAs do really well at the shoot2hunt course last week. The 3x15 would be my choice and its right in your budget.

I don't think you'll find one more bulletproof and the new model has a zerostop. You might be able to find a used trijicon in that price range too.

Agree with all the advice above. I would add the SWFA 3-9 as another option. I have one on my 6.5 and it’s perfect for me. I like it better than the Maven RS1.2 I replaced with it.

I put a Trijicon Huron on a rifle this year and by accident dropped it scope first right onto some rocks. Rifle and scope took a pretty hard tumble but was dead on when checked at the range.

Also look at the 2-10 Credo. No parallax adjust as a bonus for set and forget.

Where will you be hunting and is low light capability important? If so, the Accupoint 2.5-10X56 can't beat in your price range.
Eastern Kentucky in the Appalachians mountains. My property is weird tho. Lots of clear cuts. Can see forever up there. 1000 yards in multiple directions. It was logged and mined back in the early 2000’s. Lots of thick cover for big bucks to disappear in.

I have 4 accupoints and love them. I also have a couple of Schmidt and Benders, Victories, etc. that are at least 3x more expensive and only marginally better.

If you have any interest in learning to dial and shoot "long range" in the future then the swfa 3-9 is the one. But for a capped turret design a Trijicon is the way.

For set/forget I use the following:

Nightforce SHV 3-10x42
S&B Klassic 6x42 - would need to be used as I don't think they are in production anymore

I have had nothing but good experiences with the SHV 3-10x42. Mine has stayed zeroed through a few seasons of use. It was probably the first scope that I owned that never needed fiddling around with to stay zeroed.

I’d go 8 twist 243 and
Triji credo, a “demo NF ShV or a 3-9 Swfa.
I’ve got credos and the Swfa 3x9. I actually like the Swfa the most. If you want it set and forget it style then u can just electrical tape the turrets
