Blue loctite 242 and a stripped head

How nice? Trying to get scope off. I’ve applied as much reasonable heat as I can and still no luck. Wound up getting mad and tied brute force. Spun out the head with the proper wrench. Fun stuff

I never had that problem with blue. good thing you did not use red.

They make very small Ez outs you should be able to find.

And no. Not heat with a $9.99 hair dryer. That just happened to be in the pic. Hahaha.

My dad always uses red loktite and i dont even try. Have some scopes that will never come off cause he put them on.

Heat can be applied with a solder iron to the screw head. Yes it expand the screw and melts the glue.

Use an ez out if you got it.

The screws for scopes are really too soft. Be nice it they didnt strip so easily.

These screws sure aren’t soft. Tried to drill one out and NO DICE! Will go get an easy out and v try that. I put a lot of torque on it with alien wrench though.

Solder gun…. Good idea. Thanks. Heat gun and a flame and even a butane flame has done no good. The gun is such a heat sink I can’t get the dang screw actually hot

Yup, need to use carbide bits. Regular ones break. I have a scope where been trying to get dad installed rings off for a couple years. Pull it out every now and again until it gets frustrating, then put it away. LOL!

I would wrap the scope in painter tape and use a grinder with a cut off wheel to completely grind the heads off and thro the rings away.

Sometimes you can get lucky by tapping in a oversized torx head bit into the screw head. Times like this will really test a guys patience!

Done! Solder gun and some luck got it. SOB damn sure wasn’t going to knock loose in field. Also got rail off. That s was no sweat as it was a lot easier to apply heat.

Get an Allen key hot holding it with pliers, then press the very hot key right into the screw.

Which screw head did you pop off. If it’s on of those on top of the optic you could probably get a hacksaw in there and cut the bolt. Same could be done on the rail but you’ll have to pay attention and go slow. Why people use loctite baffles me. All I’ve seen it do is cause problems down the road.

No screw popped off. I just stripped a head with Alan wrench. Found one position where I could get decent purchase and after heating it with solder iron got lucky.

I misunderstood. In the future….
You can take a star bit either the same size, or next size up and drive it in, they’ll come right out.

Purple loctite is made for fine thread screws and is easier to remove. Blue... you're rolling the dice

No joke! I got lucky. I’ll do something else for fine thread next time. Granted, when I put rail and rings on I had no intention Of removing. Kinda dumb on a revolver. Oh well. Got it done
