Going to hunt under 250 yards virtually all the time. Deep woods shots will be my normal - Piney Woods.

Would prefer a simple reticle, maybe some illumination.

2fp heavier duplex reticle or similar, low power 3x or less and you’re set. If foot hunting and the close shots are likely to be moving, then maybe low magnification 2x or less for the field of view. Some folks use un-magnified optics, I like a little magnification (6-9x) to pick a hole through twigs and hardwood whips.
One of the accupoints would be my first choice if it was in the budget.

Check out Skinner sights.
They have a couple of lpvo’s 1-4, & 1-6, and they were talking about releasing a 1-10 soon.
I have the 1-6 on my Tikka and it is easy to shoot out to 300 yds.
Has a simple BDC reticle and red firedot.
Price is pretty good too.

My only thing is would this be as bomb proof as a Huron 1-6x24?

What about a 3-9 vs a 1-4?

How important is low light performance when magnified? Exit pupil is bigger on the 3-9. What is your legit need for ultra-close range field of view?

How good are your eyes? For me (middle aged dude, requires readers, vision not what it used to be) 4x isnt enough to see twigs and hardwood whips in my shot opening at 75+ yards.

I dont need 1x, but a few times I have found the field of view on a 3x scope uncomfortably tight when foot hunting. For hunting from a stand or blind I think 3x has plenty of field of view. 6x is sufficient for me, barely. I have a 1-6 accupoint and a 3-9 huron. Both are good, but I REALLY like the 1-6, its just a great scope to get behind. I really want to do a side by side comparison of the 1-6 huron to the accupoint to see if the eyebox is the same. I dont really like the huron bdc reticle, I would already have bought the 1-6 if it was available in a wall-to-wall duplex or G#4.

Good point. My eyes aren’t that great and I can’t see well in low vision… I guess I’m just trying to have a compact optic to go with the whole takedown theme

I might just trade one of my pinkie fingers for a durable 1” tube 2-8 x 32 accupoint with a german#4 reticle and a massive eyebox.

A 1-4 or 1-6 or 2-7 magnification range sounds good. 3-9x40 is/was industry standard. 2-7's are not made in good brands/models these days. 1-6 is expensive due to the 6x magnification variable.

Most of my scopes are 3-9x40. Have 1.5-4.5 and 4, and 2-7 as well. We shoot 200 yards with the 4x and when i hunt out to 250 on stand I typically have scope on 6x - can shoot 10 yards to 250 yards with that. I like the 9x for sighting and target shooting at 200-250 yards.

The 3-9x40 scopes aren't bad for close range - just put scope on 3x and shoot with both eyes open to get faster target acquisition.

When you say takedown - are you taking the scope off too? Or leaving scope on barrel?

Leupold used to offer some rings that some folks said worked good for taking scope on and off. Not sure I would trust them, but if I took it on and off 50 or 100 times and the zero didn't change, could be convinced.

Leaving the scope on the receiver
