Wow, day 4 of South Dakota being closed. Anyone planning a 2023 antelope hunt, rethink your plans! Won't be any left after this.

Been in South Dakota a long time and this is as bad as I've seen. Visibility about 30 yards during the day. Can't see anything at night.

Hoping for the best for you all. Our blizzard did not materialize.
Probably not going anywhere soon either with the Siberian air coming down on the Northern part of the country next week.
Stay safe !

Central ND is a wreck too! It just doesn't want to stop. 50 mph winds and 20 inches so far.

Its still blowing and bad but this is childs play compared to the winter of 96-97. It was my senior year of high school and we missed 30 plus days of school. It started in october and did not quit till april then the floods that followed that were what turned alot of sloughs in to lakes that are still fishable to this day.

That winter was crazy! I miss the snow and cold but not those winds.

I would say north central Sodak is 12 or so hard to tell now with 50 mph winds. I know they said 19 up in bismark.

cancelled my bird hunt this weekend because I saw that storm brewing. My 11 year old GSP isn’t up to the challenge anymore of Dakota winter.

Just find cover and you will pill them up in short order.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that, these storms tend to fill in the cattails and kill off a good number of birds. There are reports of 20-30 inches of snow and lots of wind, food will be tough to come by for wildlife

They won’t be dead this weekend. Find some trees hunt the south side. Killing roosters will help the hens when they start struggling the roosters will kill them. It’s blowing so hard lots of open ground in the fields. Just another South Dakota winter it’s been a while so people act like this is abnormal

My Dad was guessing 18-20 inches south of Bismarck near the border. As Kurt said, the wildlife will be fine. This is the third blizzard in that area so far in 2022 with more than 18 inches of snow. They've probably averaged about two a year like this since I've been alive. I remember in the early 2000s shooting a limit of pheasants as what seemed like hundreds were doing a Chinese fire drill out of a giant snowbank. That was early on in the peak bird years of the early 2000s. I'd argue big drifts like this early in the year are a net positive as they provide great protection/insulation for the extreme cold coming in January and February. There's a farmyard every couple miles, they don't have a problem finding food.

Ya I wouldn’t have run dog that age in this stuff either. It’s deep my lab almost got high center in a drift had to put it in 4 wheel drive haha.
Ha!

My old dog wouldn’t have even got out of the truck in that weather! Would have just stared at me and laid back down. They smarten up at that age.

@15” in the woods here but been in the middle of the storm and no major wind yet and glad cuz snow clinging to the trees often knocks out power lines but it may happen yet.
