Blaser

Yes, zruncho is gunstar . I've bought a few mounts of him through ebay.

My current config is gunstar + contessa 2.5mm rings. That give me a build height of <10mm:

Standard blaser mount:

If you want the absolute lowest for 30mm scopes, I've fitted extra low leupolds (1.5mm) to the gunstar saddle for a totalt bh of 8.5mm:

(But the leupolds suck, they turn rust red once the weatherman mentions the word rain...)

And you have to be aware of the potential problem with both the cocking lever vs ocular and the scope bell. Some scopes have a big bell, and that might limit how low rings you can have (bell touching the saddle).

Another trick to fit a big scope as low as possible is to have the mk1 blaser r8 cocking lever. When I used a Z8i (which has a stupid big ocular), I replaced the lever button. The old style (straight) is a few mm lower than the current style.

And if you are opting for holos, gunstar make an option that really makes it mount low:

The lowest Contessa rings I could find are the 3mm rings:

This is very informative and helpful. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

FWIW, I bought a Raven Euro M80 carbon fiber stock off of BlaserBuds, and put my Professional Success R8 receiver (Professional receiver is the same, just the trigger group differs) in it, which brought my bare rifle weight (270 barrel w/ sights), down to 6lb 9.5oz.

Just to clarify, this is with the Pro Success thumbhole stock receiver removed and inserted into this stock? Also I'm running standard weight barrels. Did you get standard weight or any of the wider barrel channel options? How was the fit?

That’s correct…I used the receiver out of my Professional Success thumbhole stock. I did order a regular professional trigger group, which added cost, however the Professional Success trigger group still worked.

The barrel channel is for standard barrels, which is all I have. Fit/finish is excellent all around.

Here is the M80 stock with 270 barrel, next to my Jaeger with a 300win barrel. Note the Pro Success trigger group on the M80 in the pic, which I have since replaced with a regular Professional trigger group.

Awesome. That's a good looking setup. It looks like then my Pro Success trigger will have that gap in the rear.

It looks like Akila is using that stock but putting in their own receiver assembly minus trigger group, but gives you selectable trigger weight like the AZTL.

I love the Blaser, but I'd love it even more if I could knock 1.5-2 lbs off the setup.

EDIT: In your weight photo, that is also with the bolt carrier included? So about 6.5lbs bare rifle again without scope, but trigger and bolt?

I know a few people that own them, a complete work of art the Blaser. The best part is they shoot incredibly well. No one would go wrong choosing a Blaser rifle.

Yes, 6lb 9.5oz for complete, bare rifle.

Edited...9.6oz lighter than my Jaeger, and 17.3oz lighter than my Pro Success.

Awesome vid. When I was first looking at Blaser what I liked the most is that there was no hand fitting or making of parts. Everything is a consistent, automated, and repeatable manufacturing process. One R8 part can be dropped into another R8 and they always work and are always accurate. All of my Blaser barrels are basically match grade accuracy. I've never shot one that couldn't hold better than MOA even in hunting calibers.

I posted earlier that if you like tinkering with your rifle, the Blaser it not for you. But if you want a reliable rifle that holds zero and just works without any grief, they are impossible to beat.

Are the 3/4 style rings reliable? I ordered Contessa from an online vendor but what came in wasn’t the pictured 50/50 split ring, it was the older 3/4 style. Probably old stock, even though they had the currently pictured rings. I saw where some folks adamantly swap the 3/4 style rings for horizontally split aftermarket rings.

Think I should return the 3/4 rings and order direct for the new style or are 3/4 rings good to go?

I've had no problems with different 3/4 rings (blaser, MAK and contessa). I also have some way early Blaser 50/50 split rings and optilock and leupold split rings, and to me there are no performance difference. I prefer the 3/4 rings, but to me its more about aesthetics ☺️

Been out of town and busy but weighed my carbon stocked R8 with the factory .243 Win barrel last night:

With scope and one of the lighter European mounts, can’t recall which one:

With my 27” fluted Vias braked 264 Win barrel the total is 8lb 8oz

My K95 in .308 Win is 4lb 12oz bare.

Not an easy task to get a R8 under 8#
