Blaser R8 Field Evaluation

Those look pretty good and strong vs. the Blaser version. I use a pic rail with NF rings on my larger scopes. Another hunting mate only uses pic rail with NF low rings on his Blaser. When he swaps scopes he just takes off the rings and leaves the pic rail on and it appears to hold zero fine for him and he kills a lot of stuff.

I suspect my pic rail with rings setups are stronger than the Blaser mount/rings if I had to put money on it.

I just use Gunstar mounts. The Gunstar version I have uses allen keys to tighten it vs. QD locks but again it never comes loose. I compared it to the Blaser version (much more $$$$) and can't see any difference in function. I swap the pic rail and Blaser mount often when going between thermal (pic rail) and NF 2.5-10 (Blaser QD) without problems.

The non QD version from Gunstar is marginally lower if I recall.

Do you have the traditional style stock or the thumbhole stock? And which do you prefer?

I haven't used a thumbhole stock before so I'm trying to decide if I should get a Success or Ultimate (all I have access to at the moment) or wait until a traditional stock version becomes available.

I have the pro success thumbhole and so do other people I know. I actually prefer it vs. traditional stocks now. It gives you a vertical grip for unusual field position shooting which I prefer. I find it also very fast snap shooting on pest hunts/culls.

I think the standard stock may be little lighter and they offer a version without removable trigger group so it's cheaper. The trigger group can be locked into place in all of their stocks if someone is worried about losing it.

J SIPP makes an integrated pic rail that bolts into top of the barrel. I got one on my first few barrels from him.

I liked the Blaser saddle mounts better so removed them all.

Knew it would happen when I did it, but being lazy after a long pack out, leaned the rifle against the tailgate. Predictably-

Same T3 as fell out with the R8 before. Full weight with pack- 270’ish lbs stood up directly on it.

Until I figure out what’s causing the zero shifts in the R8, it’s getting put up for hunting.

Is the T3 fully bedded?

Perhaps I am following this R8 evolution too closely, but I did just get one.

When you say fully bedded in your T3x, is that something you would do with all the wood rokstoks?
