Blaser R8 Field Evaluation

@Formidilosus since that does not look like a new rifle/case and all Blaser 6mm barrels have the same twist, have you worked up any loads with heavier (105-108 ect) bullets? I’ve got a .243 Win barrel and have never gone above my beloved 95g BT but would consider it if the slower 6BR can do it.

Im interested to know how you go in the snow. Have a mate thats had his R93 freeze up after rain in the Tahr blocks here in NZ. He did beat it open but apparently it was frozen solid. I've got one on order primarily for the compactness and modularity.

I bet a 6BR looks ridiculous in the R8 magazine. Even a 30-06 has quite a bit of extra space. This will be interesting. I have an R8 Jaeger with carbon stock. I would love a better more ergonomic stock a-la rokstok.

Im going to try something with mine I think. I've only ordered a 22lr barrel though for now as I'll do a custom chambering I think.

I have not shot it. The factor 6BR barrels are/were 1/8” twist, the 243 unfortunately are 1/10”.

With the heavy barrel and heavy’ish suppressor- 11lbs on the dot. Would be about 9 to 9.5lbs with a lighter barrel and lighter can.
Cool!

Why the heavy barrel profile? I'm guessing weight?

What did total setup cost? (or what would it have cost if you recieved it for free)

Why 6BR and not XC?

Will you be getting a wood rokstock for this? What's your initial thoughts on the ergonomics of the factory stock?

Where is the balance with the OG L and the heavy barrel?

That’s what was available. This rifle was sent in for the eval by a member

Total with suppressor and scope?

The owner had 6 BR and 6.5cm barrels.

Probably not for this one, as it isn’t mine.

The factory stocks aren’t bad. Better than most stocks on the market. An adjustable butt plate to raise up the recoil pad and it would be very functional.

I’ll have to confirm, but just forward of the action screw IIRC.

I will be interested to see how the guy who is all about screws that never come loose adapts to a system that readily takes down like that. I’m sure that drop tests will be inbound and I I look forward to the results.

I’ve used Blasers quite a bit. Checking barrel screws regularly is just a part of it, though I don’t ever remember having one come loose at all. Though, with the scope being mounted to the barrel, I’m not sure it would matter anyways.

The drop eval is the worry to me with the mount system. Could be a nothing burger, could break it.

@Formidilosus my only concern with the R8 system would be moisture in the bolt collet or the barrel extension. I’m assuming a winter test by you will let us know. The trigger itself has minimal exposed parts, but the bolt housing and bolt face are pretty complicated and I wonder how ice would affect them,

Oh yeah, it’ll be in the winter ice/snow Evals. The owner asked that it get used and tested heavily, so it will.

-40 was no issue.
