BlackOvis Base Layers

So I use the lightweight stuff and it feels great. Have 3 of them and they’ve all help up great so far. The midweight one sizing is weird and it’s a bit scratchy compared to the lightweight. I still use it but I had to size up and it still seems a little short on me. Definitely warm enough though.

Haven't tried the BO stuff just because of the mixed reviews on comfort. I've tried just about everything else, with FL being the best IMO. With that said, I ordered some MerinoTech off Amazon in light and mid-weight to try and found it just as comfortable and warm. I can't do itchy, scratchy next to skin and this stuff is great merino at about half the price of the big players. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Mine's going on 4-5 years with zero issues.
I ordered some of their mid weight bottoms and was really pleased, too. Plus, you got a free pair of merino socks with the deal!

Free socks I say! Shows you the astronomical margins on these things...

Forgot to mention the free socks! Lol that's a nice bonus, they're decent socks too.

I have quite a bit of BO merino.
I hunt in it... a lot.
During winter, I wear their bottoms almost daily. They get worn a lot and washed a lot.
Zero problems, zero holes.

I have some that is several years old and still perform like new.

Far exceeded my expectations.

I have never noticed it being rough or "scratchy" like an above post described.

I suppose men are made different nowadays as I see posts about "comfortable underwear", most comfortable t-shirts, jeans, packs, socks triggers, etc.

I never gave it consideration and have really only found one or two brands of T's that were similar to wearing a new canvas outfitter tent across my nipples. 😬

I once wore a poly T under a wool flannel with canvas bibs over those and talk about nip burn, yee-ouch!

I have the heavy weight bottoms, light weight pullover, and the keele hoody. The bottoms keep me warm but do start to stink after a couple of days and start sagging as soon as you put them on. Drives me crazy when you try to pull on your pants and it all rolls up with the pants. The keele hoody isn’t very comfortable and just a really awkward fit. I would say size up 2 or 3 sized but then it would still be too tight in places and really short on the body. I have really like the lightweight pullover and have used it the most. I bought all of mine on big camp fire sales so I can put up with the bottoms but I ended up giving away the keele hoody.

The Realm hoody is my most worn item, especially in the summer. The merino wool shirts are a little itchy so I wear them over a t-shirt and they are pretty warm for around the house and town. The Black Ovis bamboo boxers have held up really well over two years with zero holes or stretching. As DrBeetleKill stated, I had the Keele heavy weight hoody but sent it right back because the fit was very tight on my forearms.

When it comes to the performance of BO bases I don’t have any complaints, the fit however leaves some to be desired.

The realm hoodie is my favorite though, I’ve got 4 of them now and I’d put it up against the Sitka ascent hoodie any day. Their Keele hoodie is TIGHT so buy a size up and wear a Tshirt under it.

I have black Ovis merino in every weight they make. Few Sitka pieces and the older Cabelas (pre bass pro). I’m in a black O top probably 65 days a year and I really love them. I never wear my Sitka base layers. Oddly my dad said he gets itchy in the set I bought him. I’ve never felt any discomfort in anything they make. Personally I like to size up as I’m not a fan of skin tight on top. I rarely hunt without a merino hoodie

Their soft shell gloves on the other hand…. Been disappointed with inconsistent sizing.

I’ve picked up some BO merino, so far seems to be doing well. Couldn’t pass up the price. Fabric quality seems legit, and so far have no complaints. Don’t think I’ll be switching completely from my first lite merino, but for some easy day hunts I think its got everything covered. If anything else it will help me give my other gear a break and last longer.

Absolutely size up. My lightweight LS might seem scratchy to some, but I like it as a base. I have a mid weight merino hoody (from before they called it the keele and added a chest zipper pocket) and that piece is much softer. As far as I know both are 100% merino if that is important to you. I'm interested in trying FL at some point, but tough to justify more base layers, especially at 100 bucks a pop, when the Black Ovis stuff works great and I could put that money towards upgrading other items.
