How many shots do you typically get out of one of those 8oz containers? Just got a cva mr-x and it came with both breech plugs. Haven't picked up any powder/pellets yet

I couldn't tell you for sure. One container lasts me about 2-2.5 years. I'm sure it depends on how much you shoot and what amount you use. I use 90-100 grains which is probably the equivalent of three pellets of triple 7.

One half pound on any powder is 3500 grains. Assuming max loads of about 120 grV or 96 grW, you’d get 36 charges per 8 oz bottle.

Wow, so not only more expensive but ya get like half the amount you do with pellets.. think I’ll grab white hots for my first year since I still need to sight it in and find a bullet it likes. Do most of you guys use magnum loads? As in 3 pellets or just the 2? If I use 3, would I need a magnum primer? I’m trying to stretch out my bdc in the Nikon prostaff to 300 yards but I don’t think it’s possible without a magnum charge and lighter 250g bullets.

Yeah Bh209 is more expensive. You’d get about 43 charges if you wanted to shoot 100 grV (80 grW) loads. $85 per 43 charges.

I think most guys probably shoot 2 pellet (100 grV) loads. With 777 pellets, for 50 (2 pellet) loads you’d be looking at about $40.

The other thing about 777, is that it doesn’t last from year to year if opened. So if you don’t shoot it all up one year, I’d throw it out. No question, that IMO, Bh209 is worth it if you’re a serious muzzy hunter.

I’ve only hunted whitetails with BH209, and out to 150 I’ve never needed more than 90 grains and a 250 gr bullet. I use standard Winchester 209 shotgun primers. Never had any hang or misfires. This is over at least 10 years of shooting/hunting.

For real? The triple 7 and white hots go bad after a year? Thats crazy! Thank you for letting me know man. I never heard that and although I am a noob, I’ve wanted to get into muzzys for a long time so I’ve done plenty of research but never heard that. BH209 will be the jam next year for sure. I don’t want to deal with only having a years worth on hand and I’m glad I didn’t order any yet because I was going to get the triple 7 and white hots to see which ones shot better. Screw that, I’m only getting white hots now

I'm shooting triple 7 that was opened several years ago and it works flawlessly. I've been shooting triple 7 for the last two decades and never had to throw a bottle away.
It’s a pretty well known fact. I’ve definitely noticed strange results with leftover 777.

According to Randy Wakeman:

“One 10 oz. bottle of BH209 gives you more shots than $65 worth of Triple Se7en three pellet loads with no crud, no immediate cleanup and no corrosion. The shelf life of Blackhorn 209 is indefinite when properly stored in a sealed container. This is in stark contrast to Triple Se7en, which immediately starts absorbing moisture. The engineers at ATK / Federal, while developing their Fusion primer, found that any primer is fine with dry pellets. Its when the T-7 pellets soak up 7+% moisture that ignition becomes critical. It is this moisture grabbing ability of T7 that degrades performance, a property thankfully not shared by BH209.“
