Bivy and Tarp?

If helpful, here's what I ran last year (I switched from a TarpTent Rainbow Li). This setup below (before sleeping bag/pad) weighs 1.9125 pounds.
  • Seek Outside Silex, the Dyneema one. I pitch it with trekking poles
  • Alpine Ascent Bivy.

I keep my pad and sleeping back in the Bivy. Just roll it up in the morning and you're good to go. I also use the Silex during they day for shade protection and for random rain.

Curious what you've gained when the Rainbow Li weighs 1.6 lbs?

Fair question. Here are a few things I’ve preferred over the Rainbow Li:
  • Setup and packup is faster. I’m stuffing everything in the bivvy in one dry bag vs the tent and sleeping bag and pad separately.
  • Can camp in more locations. The bivvy can be set up almost anywhere.
  • Option to not even use the tarp when there’s no forecast for precip. Pic below!
  • The tarp is so nice to use during the day, esp when glassing towards the sun (casts a nice shadow over you and your optics.
The Rainbow Li is still an incredible tent. I’m surprised it doesn’t get more love.
