The Gun Bearer works well and is comfortable but doesn't work for me for steep ascents and descents. I hunt in an area with a healthy population of
G-bears so I like to be able to access my rifle without removing my pack. This little system I built seems to work well in preliminary testing. The rifle is mounted securely to the pack, it does not rattle or move. The bends in the bracket fit securely between the stays and Velcro in, it's rock solid! The rip cord runs down the shoulder strap, all you do is reach over your shoulder, grab the barrel and pull the rip cord and you are shouldering your weapon in less than one second.
The whole system weighs 8 ounces, not ultra light but worth the weight IMHO.

Looks good. I use a bit different system, but yours looks like it could work pretty well too. Nice work! Mine puts the barrel even with the type of my head which is nice for going through the alders and still quick access to it while wearing the pack.

Well done on the mount though...should work well for ya!!!

Thanks Luke, I like the way your rifle is riding in the photo above. I have about 8 inches of adjustment I can make, I want to find the sweet spot between snagging the barrel on branches during aproach and banging the stock on rocks during the climb and steep side hilling. I will be heading out for a few days next week for the initial test flight of my new equipment.

Luke, every time I see that rifle I have to laugh a bit!:)
