The Gun Bearer works well and is comfortable but doesn't work for me for steep ascents and descents. I hunt in an area with a healthy population of
G-bears so I like to be able to access my rifle without removing my pack. This little system I built seems to work well in preliminary testing. The rifle is mounted securely to the pack, it does not rattle or move. The bends in the bracket fit securely between the stays and Velcro in, it's rock solid! The rip cord runs down the shoulder strap, all you do is reach over your shoulder, grab the barrel and pull the rip cord and you are shouldering your weapon in less than one second.
The whole system weighs 8 ounces, not ultra light but worth the weight IMHO.
