Best Way to Carry Heat in the Backcountry???

I have 3 inch kimber 1911 I would like to carry while bow hunting. I have a chest harness on at all time for my binos, so a koala or HPG probably won't work. It would be cool if kifaru made a koala that worked as a combo bino harness. I would like to maximize protection for my pistol. It doesn't matter to me if the pistol stays on my waist belt of my backpack.

Curious how some of you guys carry in the backcountry. I used to not carry but a couple experiences have swayed my judgement. I had a run in with an aggressive sow black bear in the spring with fresh born Cubs. Another time mountain lion hunting we were on a Cat that circled back around on us and we became the prey. Also I know 45 ACP isn't ideal but it gives me confidence and peace of mind.

I tried all sorts of ways and holsters including chest but in the end I just put my holster on the waist belt of my back pack. I pretty much never go any where without my pack so it's always with me and since it's on the waist belt it stays out of the way of my binos or shoulder straps and such

I found this same setup works great what is nice is if you do decide to leave your pack behind you can easily remove it and put it in your pant waistband. Now I just need to find one for my LCR.

Kifaru has/had a holster that strapped on to the shoulder strap of a backpack. I don't know if it would work with a bino harness but I kind of want to try one out.

I use a G-Code Mule ISS for my FS M&P. It's a thigh style holster but rides much higher than your typical thigh holster, ISS stands for Intermediate Suspension System. So it's in between a belt paddle holster and a drop leg thigh holster in ride height. I've hiked around 16 miles with it while bow hunting with no issues. Well made holster with thick kydex. Check them out.

I have an HPG recon kit bag that I use for bowhunting with a side arm. I put my binos in the front pouch and have no issues.

blackhawk serpa holster, blackhawk thigh rig, cabelas last chance light duty belt.View attachment 14389
i prefer this. having it ride in the sweet spot per say makes or breaks this for carry. trial and error will allow one to find it. i have worn this set up hundreds of hours with no problems. temps from 0-90 degrees, yes its not for everyone but i like it. having this position allows you to drop your pack and still carry. even better in the thick nasty, drop your pack, drop your bow/rifle and stalk with your pistol. either way i have ascended and descended trail and trail less terrain of all types possible with success. good luck.

I carry a .44 on the waist belt of pack. It's a titanium framed and only weighs 26 oz. No issues for me. Just a bit of confidence when your on your own.

my glock 27 fits pretty well in a small kifaru belt pouch. Thinking about carrying it there for archery, but i think i would need a CC license if i did since its not visible

Glock 29, 10mm here. Usually on my pack belt. I will put something "bigger" in a chest rig if I have to go back in for meat. Last year a show griz with a cub gave me a thrill. (Nervous close, not scary close)

You guys using the serpa with a paddle, do you run the paddle all the way around your pack belt? Or slide it over/inside the belt once the pack is on??

I just slide it between the belt part and the padding. Hold real good like this and can take may pack on and off without issues and with the gun holding fast in that position.

Many states have an exemption to needing a concealed carry if you are out fishing or hunting.

I found this site with a quick search that may help with this. usacarry.com
