Getting ready to load up some 22 arc bolt gun loads. Bullets will be 80gr Hornady, 77gr tmk and 71gr McGuires. I’m trying to stay away from the cfe and lever because where I hunt and shoot for practice it’s normal to have big temp swings…can be 40’s in the mornings and 80’s or even 90’s by late afternoon.

Varget, N540, 4895 were where I was going to start. Are there any other go to powders for the 22arc and these class bullets. I’ve looked at load data but don’t currently have any of these powders on hand so would like to narrow my focus if there is a go to powder for the arc like h4350 in a creedmoor. Velocity is a consideration. Looking to be north of 3000fps in 22” barrel.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Have seen where a lot of people shot H4350 in 22grendel before it was the ARC.

Especially in a bolt gun, I would think it’s worth a shot

I have lots of H4350 on hand. Might try it. Main thing I’ve heard is that you can’t get enough 4350 in the case for bolt gun loads and that it’s a bit slow for the arc. Hodgdon has gas gun loads for H4350 published and even those show compressed, so likely not enough room to be a couple grains higher for a bolt gun load. Sure would be nice if it worked though. I picked up some staball match yesterday. Store had N540 as well, which will likely be where I look if the Staball doesn’t show promise.

I don’t actually care that much about velocity for target shooting, but I have those mcguires and will hunt with them here in ca. I want to be north of 3000fps muzzle velocity with those.

Seems like the guys running h4350 are using 90gr bullets. Most of the guys on the 22br comp threads on SH seem to be using varget, which has shot well for me in the 22arc and I’m sure h4895 would be ideal as well

Bumping this up instead of starting a new thread. I've got a 22 Arc on order from LS Wild that I'm hoping to see around the end of the March and have been trying to gather some data on. I'll likely be shooting Hornady Black 75 eldm 90% of the time for practice and plinking but will reload for hunting. With the new 88 TMK on the horizon that is likely what I'm going to try and make work...if I can get 2,850 out of my 18" barrel I'll be very pleased.

That said, I have a bunch of H4350 on hand but could be convinced to pick something else up if it's better suited for the application. I see a lot of talk of N540, H4895, Varget, and CFE223 being good choices...CFE223 if you don't mind a ball powder that might not be the most temp stable option anyway.

This is my first venture into this small of a case and trying to do my due diligence figuring out what might be my best path forward. If anyone has any additional suggestions or data points I'd be all ears and grateful for the information.

I have since picked up some Varget and Lever, along with the staball match. Will hopefully get a load worked up once my other components arrive. I originally wanted to stay away from lever but saw some for a good price so decided to get it. I won’t start with it but will fall back on it if I can’t get the velocity I want out of the staball or Varget. Have some alpha brass and dies on order that need to show up before I can do anything. Kinda kicking myself for not picking up 4895 or N540 as I’ve researched more and they seem to be solid choices for better than average velocity, temp stability and accuracy. I’ll update this thread once I get something worked up. I want put 100-200 rounds though the gun before I do load development.

I’m interested in your experience with Staball match. I keep looking at it, but lever is cheaper and doing such a good job for me
