How is the performance of the Soto in windy conditions? I have been using a titanium 750ml pot + a BRS stove for a while and my BRS finally died. Thinking of replacing it with something that performs a little better in less than ideal conditions.
The BRS is considered an ultra minimalist lightweight summer backpacking stove as far as canister stoves are ranked by the boys and girls over at Backpackinglight and has been for years. It works , but has its shortcomings. Which once again can be reversed over there. I like mine in the summer and during dead of calm.
The Soto Windmaster is a solid proven stove and I like mine for the rest of the time. Its comparable competitor is the MSR Pocket Rocket 2 Deluxe ( which is a knock off of the Soto WM actually) . Many many head to head reviews on BPL and YouTube can be found. The edge generally goes to the Soto based on many levels , but most importantly burn, efficiency, and function . The Soto also has more wind protection because its head burner design than the MSR PR2D. Open tundra no proper added wind protection will kill anything obv.
Negatives, nesting. Pots don’t come exactly as they should and you will find this out. Some times you have to push the Soto into your buddy’s pot where yours it might drop right in. My friends have toaks pots where it is tight and the pot bends a teeny bit and one where it slides right in.
Based on that I purchased my pots off Aliexpress ( toaks rebrands @ $16-24 including shipping as apposed to $30-40+ shipping domestic) . Same experience some bends to get it in and some slide right in, but less price. Evernews are better quality made in Japan as apposed to Toaks made in China and the Aliexpress’s.
Anyways , my preferred canister stove in this class until you have to make the jump to other needs inverted for true winter or start other fun funky things Svea 123, Optimus 99/199/111/b/etc…You can have fun with stoves , but that is a whole nother hobby and not really hunting.
