I am looking for the top states and guides for a lion hunt. I can come almost anytime - so I can wait for good snow. Who do you reccomend?

Lookup Hunter Mecham (Utah) or Evan Koster (CO). I'm not sure if Hunter is doing any himself but his family is.

Both good guys, great lion hunters.

Alan Bennett with Pinnacle Outfitters in New Mexico. His crew and all the dogs are some of the best I’ve seen.

What is your budget and what are your goals? Depending on that, there's potentially a lot of names, or a small handful.

I am aiming for $6k for outfitter, but $8k is ok if it looks really good.

Depends what kind of hunt you want. Up north in the snow or down south for dry ground. Lodge based or out of a hotel. Mainly depends what kind of experience you’re looking for.

Very good question I should have included. I want a difficult, challenging, hard hunt. I have zero problem hiking miles and working hard - I would MUCH rather work hard and earn it then take it easy. I will sleep in a tent if it helps my odds 5%. I do not need anything fancy, I think it would be neat to stay with the guide and learn new stuff etc. I am 98% a DIY hunter, solo AK, backpack archery elk etc. Obviously I am not going to take a mnt lion DIY so I need to hire someone.

Did you ever find an outfitter for the hunting style you’re looking for?

I’ve only ever hunted Colorado and New Mexico. Sundown outfitters, or one on one adventures

That looks like a really big tom. Bumping this thread up as I’m looking to book a lion hunt with dogs. Definitely want a big one, and like the idea of cutting tracks in the snow and setting the dogs out.

Are certain states known for having bigger toms than others? Welcome any specific outfitter recommendations as well

If you absolutely positively want to go one and done on a big lion, Alberta.

No dogs in that pic, and blacked out faces? Keep looking.
