Best Mono Bullet for Hunting/Effective Kills

140g Maker Trex out of a 280ai at 3150fps.
Frontal on a Buck antelope at 95yds. Buck did a nose dive and was doa. Bullet was found under hide of rear ham.

Don't have the pictures but at 275 yards a .270 Win and 110 TTSX from a rear quartering shot did the same thing to a buck pronghorn. Entered behind the ribs on the right flank, went out between the sternum and left front leg. Dropped and didn't twitch.

That's pretty good still shots. The first one shows the hair coming outward and second has hair blowing in the wind like dandelions seeds. Good shooting and good photography!

120 grain hammer hunter via 7mm-08 vs elk, 2600 impact velocity. Was a little scared after everything I read on the internet about how magnums are required for elk hunting and how monos pencil through without doing any damage, but to my surprise, putting the round through the vitals at a sane distance resulted in an immediate kill

Interestingly this was about a thousand yards from where the same thing happened exactly 365 days ago

Has anyone tried the Fort Scott TUI (Tumble Upon Impact) ammo? Just trying to add to the non lead ammo list.

Did anyone ever respond to this? Does anyone have any knowledge or experience about this bullet? Seems like it might be ideal mono-metal solution.

Was that the factory Barnes 110 TTSX load? I just saw that they came out with this load for the .270 and I'm excited to give it a try.

3400 fps mv should give a MPBR of around 300 yards or so which I love for hunting in the east here where I am.

I've not a ton of experience with monos but my observations have led me to two conclusions...1) minimum of .284 caliber and 2) minimum impact velocity of 2200 fps. I believe if operated in these parameters there will be a 99% terminal success rate with solid copper bullets.

The other problem is that monos have lower BC's so they slow down more quickly than lead thus reaching that 2200 fps threshold sooner=shorter max range.

Probably the main reason that I like monos is that I can't push them too fast and I like fast. Speed does indeed kill.

If I hand loaded I would definitely be experimenting with the Hammer HBC bullets. The low friction design(PDR) and high BC to weight ratio means you could push those things really fast and they would hold onto that velocity reasonably well.

If I calculated correctly, the 141 grain HBC from a 24" 280 AI going 3250+fps MV would still be traveling over 2200 fps at 600 yards.

That was a hand load with the 110 ttsx. The federal loads from 10 years ago or so before they discontinued it also had an MV of 3400. Which load is it they are offering in Factory ammo again for that bullet? If you don't mind sharing, interested in that.
