Curious what you guys had liked for best Merino briefs. Elk hunting......hiking......everyday where. I have been running thr Ridge Merino boxers. I like them they are very comfortable but all my pairs are getting holes in the crotch quicker than I would like for what they cost. I reached out to them about it ans they were good enough to send me 2 pairs but said they wouldn't do it again. Like I said I like em but hopes they would be more durable for the money. What are yalls thoughts and experiences? Thank you.

Icebreaker makes great ones, have run ultras in them and multi day hunts, still look (and smell) brand new.

I'll second Icebreaker but they do wear quickly. Smartwool is another to consider, and I found them to be more durable.

Point 6 have been doing well for me for the last year. They have a sack/bag feature but I don’t use it nor do I even notice it. If you buy Kuiu size down (double check feedback/reviews). The merino I tried ran a size larger than their cotton which fit on size.

Edit: I completely forgot I used to wear a bunch of Smartwool. I'd say I prefer the Point 6 by a fair margin over the Smartwool. And not too enamored with the few pair of Kuiu I bought to try.

Anyone tried any that use NuYarn merino? That's the only merino yarn / fabric that I've found to be significantly better than most when it comes to long-term durability, but I've only used it in full-length baselayer bottoms and tops.

Been wearing the Ridge merino for several years as well, they do wear thin eventually but not sure I can expect much more out of merino. The black ovis merino seems to wear thin and tear a lot quicker

Kuiu sizing is frustrating, some items I am a size up and others not so. Happy with their merino boxers though

Smart wool merino boxers for me. Love em

I tried a pair of kuiu merino and only wore them a few times because they were uncomfortable. When I ordered that kuiu pair, it was even a size larger than I normally wear

I'm going on 3 years with a few pairs of stone glacier merino and have had no complaints with them

I wear Smartwool daily and I'm only recently starting to lose a few pairs that are 6+ years old. I wash on cold and always hang them up to dry.

I’ve been wearing Woolly boxers for a few years. I really like em. I do have a few pairs starting to hole/tear in the crotch. But I’m hard on them every day. I’ve gotten 5ish years out of the first pairs I bought. I’ll be buying more.

Edit: I don’t wash with regular detergent. I use wool conditioner.

I didn't know elk wore under wear 🤷
You know there's a clothing forum right? 😂

I have some First Lite that I love. It is super durable and comfortable to touch, never an itch or any of that. I think it’s the Kiln hoody I grab and wear for all kinds of temps and tasks. I bought Black Ovis and if you’re wanting something cheaper for a hunt or a quick fix it’s great but over time ( 3 years) it starts to frey and come apart pretty easily and become more uncomfortable the more you wear it

Counterpoint. I tried wool briefs for the smell factor. That was great, but they get soaked and chafe when hiking. Went back to synthetic compression style.
