Best all around Caliber??

.270 or .30-06 for sure. Both can and have killed everything in NA. You don’t need a magnum for anything….

But life is about serving God and having fun and if you want something a little unreasonable… go for it!

Of all the rifles I have , I always go back to my 7mm-08. It shoots really well. It’s taken deer, elk, and has forsaken many of milk jugs.
With that said I’m building a 300 prc right now 😂

6.8 western is a good option even though it’s just a hopped up .270, I retired my tikka 3 years ago and have taken bear, and multiple deer out to 790yds on a mule deer buck and it’s been awesome

I also just debated this and went with a .308. For me it was 400yards and under so hard to argue against a .308

Considering the rifles you have(which are all really similar); and the desire to buy a new rifle. I would say a fast twist 22-250/22 Creedmoor or a 300win mag. You have the middle pretty well covered.

.223 would be my choice for best all around caliber. There are several different cartridges that employ it. This caliber can be used for everything from self defense, hunting, recreation, and war at an economical price.

caliber? My vote is quarter bore! As far as cartridge, I am doing a 25 SAUM waiting on barrel. That said, I think I would be just as happy with a 25 PRC.

A .308 diameter. For cartridge I’d choose .308 Win for commonality and availability, if those weren’t a concern as much my choice would change to 300 win mag.

For a strictly hunting/long range shooting cartridge, 280AI. You can shoot 180's at 2900fps pretty easily. Or you can shoot 120's at 3400fps. It's cheap to load for, and is enough to humanely kill any animal in north America. It's been used extensively in Africa as well. It's ideal if you're a reloader. If not, well I wouldn't recommend it as heartily, but there are still some good factory ammo options. It's a fantastic option.

I live in Texas but hunt out west as well. If you had to pick a caliber to do it all everything from Texas whitetail to Bull elk what would you choose? 308, 7mm-08, 7mmPRC, 30-06, 300wsm? ( i already have a 6.5cm, 6.5prc, 270. Just have the itch to buy a new rifle. I don't Wana hear save your money and buy more ammo for the guns I have lol)
22 creed/arc, 6 creed/arc/fast twist 243 or a 300 super wsm build.

You already have overlap in the middle ground, so you probably need to go to either extreme of smaller or larger.

The only reason I own anything more powerful than a 22CM for any ungulate in North America is because some F&G depts are still infected deep with Ron Spomer Fudderism or they think their laws will protect their game populations from outlaws with 55gr FMJs, somehow.

For all around use, I’d go with 6mm ARC, 6mm GT, or 6 Creedmoor because they’re legal for big game in all states and will kill everything without excess recoil. If bullet diameter wasn’t an issue, I’d go .22 Creedmoor and be happy for life.

I'm interested in a 6creed for something flat or a 358Win or 35Whelen for something different, plus in my state, centerfire rifles must be at least 35cal for deer but 35whelen is just cool in general.

I'd say 6.5 PRC! If you have to scratch the itch and considering what you have maybe you go 7PRC or 300 PRC.

If you don't like the answer, ask a different question (lol).

You have a 6.5 Creedmoor. I could kill every kind of hooved critter that roams the North American continent with that cartridge. Nothing else compatible with a .470"-.473" bolt face is going to kill any deader. Save your money.

Unless, of course, you don't think you could "git 'er done" with the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Everything is bigger in Texas, right? Even your supermarkets, like Herbert E. Butts, take up entire city blocks. Might was well use a .338 Winchester Magnum for your whitetail whacking and trips out west, based on that "everything's bigger in Texas" logic. Trajectory is about like a good 165 grain .30-'06 load, but it makes a bigger entry hole. On the other hand, you could do like some on the African continent do and use a .375 Holland and Holland for everything, including big bears that might want to eat you back. Out to 300 yards, a 275 grain soft-nose spitzer from a .375 H&H shoots as flat as a .30-'06 does,

So, there you have it: get yerself a custom rifle in something like .338 Win. Mag, .340 Weatherby Mag, .375 Ruger, or .375 Holland and Holland.

"Go big, or go home...." ;)

I had a 7-6.5prc built, absolutely love it. Similar to a 7 saum or .280ai but with a 6.5prc case. Shoots the 175eldx at 2940 or the 160 accubond at 2975 with light recoil.

I wonder the reasoning behind that law.
