Best Advice for New Dad

Like some have noted above, i was terrified beforehand because the family i grew up in was less than optimal.

Nothing like it and be as good a role model as possible because they will watch you like a hawk. Ages 3 -14 were incredibly fun.

Have fun doing what they enjoy doing, and when parents and kids both enjoy the same activities that is simply wonderful. Mine loves the outdoors and was often out with me since he was about 3 yrs old till high school.

Give them your time, patience and love when they are young because that is the bank account of positive that will likely be needed when they hit the throes of adolescence.
 
Give him attention even if you're tired. Give him a hug every time you get home from work. Let him make mistakes as long as he doesn't seriously hurt himself.
