best 22lr off the shelf?

Just watched a video about the T1x feeding fix. Cause being slop in the magazine, the guy fixed it with a piece of duct tape on the back of the mag to snug up the fit.
I have mixed feelings on stuff like that. On one hand, cheap easy fix. On the other hand, you shouldn’t have to duct tape a rifle to make it work right.

I got a lone wolf glock barrel like 10 years ago, it wouldn’t feed ammo at all, anything. You could see where the copper was smearing on the feed ramp. When i contacted them they were like “yeah, it’s a common problem, we can fix it super easy just send it back”….well if it’s a common problem that’s easy to fix, why the hell are you sending them out??? I ended up just getting a refund and going a different direction, I never even gave lone wolf any consideration after that.

That’s how I feel with the t1x, it’s not even sort of an option for what I want to do with a 22 rifle. Just watching my buddy **** around with his yesterday every time he tried to shoot a bird only solidified that for me. I shot 13 birds, he got 3 because he was messing around with his gun, when I tried using a t1x for ptarmigan hunting it was the same thing, I’d be messing with the gun and I’d get a few, my buddy with a reliable gun would be stacking birds up.

I lost count of how many rounds I’d drop in the snow trying to get that PoS un jammed. If guys have t1x rifles that work for them then cool.

Good idea. More data points.
In all seriousness, the half dozen of these I’ve seen absolutely sucking ass in person, and the dozens of videos for how to fix things that shouldn’t have problems, I’ve got enough data points and the t1x remains a non starter anymore for me.

That means more t1x rifles for you though so it’s a good thing all around.

I was part of an early purchase for the new T1x so I bought two, one a .22 and the other a 17. I shoot the 17 more but the 22 is flawless. Maybe the early ones were better?
What’s the difference? I know early ones had some sort of wire extractor and the new ones got a plastic extractor. All the ones I’ve seen and dealt with didn’t have the original wire extractor, it was all the updated blade extractor.

I've never heard of issues with the T1x, but mine runs great.

FWIW to the OP, I shoot Vudoo's and Anschutz in NRL22 and PRS Rimfire matches. I also put together 2 rifles to occasionally shoot base class.

One is the T1x mentioned above.

The other is a CZ 457 Pro Varmint. I went with that model for the shorter barrel, which makes it much easier to maneuver in and out, as well as around the barricades, ladders, and sawhorses that the match directors use for stages.

I see people at matches with Bergaras, but they all seem to move away from them at some point.

I think, as far as factory rifles go, the 457 in whatever configuration you like is the best bang for the buck out there.

The CZ 457 MTR owns the factory NRL 22 Division. Open is a mix. It really depends on how much you want to spend. I put a Bergara B14R in an XLR Envy and did well in Open.
Never seen a Tikka rimfire win anything.

I owned a couple of CZ's, all were tack drivers and fed perfectly. Still own a 22 and 22 mag.
Bought a Tikka in 17 HMR about 6/7 years ago. Very accurate. Easily under 1/2 inch at 50 yards. Would feed 4 in the mag perfectly. Any more than 4 and it would usually jam. New magazine did nothing to fix it.
Tikka wouldn't even answer my emails
Buyer beware.

CZ rifles are really nice, that varmint precision one is really cool, maybe I should one. Is NRL22 mostly bolt action?

I’ll usually go to 6-10 matches a year with 10-40 shooters at each.

You might see one. Maybe two.
Usually newer shooters testing the waters because they have a 10/22 before they buy something else.

IRC I’ve seen one M&P 15-22.
But the more serious people use a bolt gun right?

i saw a video on you tube on the new savage it looks like a shooter.plinkster22 was shooting 100 yds with it under 1 inch group

Absolutely.

I’ve never been at match and saw a semi auto anywhere near competitive.
Why do you suppose that is? Maybe the accurate semi 22s are expensive, I have a few higher end guns like volquartsen and tacsol, they are as accurate as anything I’ve shot but they were expensive.

A precision .22 bolt gun can run you upwards of 10 K. So it’s not price. I don’t think they are consistently accurate enough to win. Large extreme spreads you get with semi autos kill you at 2-300 yds. The last outlaw match I shot had 200 yd movers.
