Bedded Animals

Provoke them to stand up or wait
I’ll shoot one bedded, but wait if you want them to stand. You throw a rock or whistle and they get up on alert, more likely to jump the string. Also more likely to smell you while you wait a few hrs. They don’t jump the string when they are bedded….

Archery is all about the angle, either you have one that will kill them or you need to wait until you do.
Agree, I am willing to shoot a bedded critter, but I have never had one bedded with an angle I was willing to shoot. I have had to wait them out plenty of times, some successful, and some not.

I shot two bedded animals this year, both from cliffs above them. Neither had a clue I was there.

The deer shot was through his neck, backstrap and into a lung. He rolled 150 yards down the mtn. Somehow he lived and moved before I made it down there and I found him bedded but very sick 100 yards away and put one behind his shoulder.

The bull offered a great angle from above, zero wind, time to kick out a perfectly flat spot to shoot from and execute a great shot. I don’t think I’ve felt more confident in and elk shot, the angle he’s laying made his vitals seem huge. I also had all the time in the world and could see a mile in both directions from his bed. Arrow hit its mark and an offside rib, I watched him stand up and walk 100 yards. He fell down once got up and walked a little further and then laid down, put his head down and didn’t move again.
