Ive got Antelope / Elk trip coming up in Wy and decided I was going to drive my 2009 Mercury Mariner 4 cyl 4x4 (150k miles)

Anyway I really wanted Apple car play so I grabbed up a wireless system from Amazon and it works great.

** The Mariner gets 26 mpgs and has more room to sleep in it than my F250

On antelope hunt I will be camping out in the Mariner…

Mariner cost me 4k a few yrs ago and ive put about 18k miles on it… been a great little vehicle.

so if any of you would like to add Apple CarPlay to your old beater…..

That’s interesting for $50. Is the mount pretty solid?
Do you have OnX and does it work on the screen? Thanks.
Ive got basemaps but have not looked to see if it worked. I added two adhesive pads to affix screen to dash along w big suction cup mount…. It also cam w a second mount your could screw down for a more solid application

Does it Bluetooth? Or do you need a cord?
And assuming you are talking about a factory head unit, not the one mentioned in the OP?
it bluetoothed to my Iphone. Im using an FM channel for audio.. It also connects automatically to my phone as soon as I power it up.

I’d be curious to find out if base maps works.
And the screw down option would be my method. Thanks.

Kinda suspected this.
From what I’ve read, you need a cord for base map/onX like @Jstumbaugh stated above. I was hopeful that this wasn’t the case with this unit. Can’t have everything I guess.

Good to hear about the camera. I’ll probably end up spending $50 soon.

Will work on backup camera tomorrow.

Ive got a 3000 mile trip and really just wanted the maps/XM radio and texting.

In my truck OnX shows up on CarPlay, but Basemaps does not. Did some research and I don’t think Basemap is available for CarPlay.

Tech is becoming more and more of our lives.....invest accordingly.

I dunno what I would do without Audible books or podcasts on long drives. Pop in a good book and you almost hate to get out of the truck to fill up.

I use a carplay dongle, plugged into the data port on my 2020 f150. Phone connects over wifi created by the dongle. OnX works seamlessly, no need to have the app open on the phone.
