Got an Eskimo Remington 700 in 243 for a song. Basically a roll of chew.

It shoots 1.5" groups but I noticed there are 2 pressure points on the stock. Take them down, free float and bed???

what's a good bullet for a 9 1/4 twist 243.. have a few powders.. winny brass.

I sanded them off on mine. It has the super cheap flimsy synthetic stock, so it took more sanding than I expected before it was floated, especially once I set it on a bipod and put the weight back on the stock/barrel. Now I can easily slide a dollar bill up to the recoil lug, and it definitely improved my groups.

Piece of sandpaper wrapped around a good sized drill bit made fairly quick work of it.

I haven't bedded it though.

108gr Eld-m have a chance of stabilizing??
Probably not
But a 95 grain berger vld or classic hunter will, great bullet and your extra velocity of the 95 might catch up the bc loss

Yep I’d sand them out and at least bed the recoil lug. Also recommend the 95gr VLD and loaded with 7828 or H1000.

the 95 gr stuff should work fine. I shoot 95 noslers in a 10 tw and a bud has a 10 tw that shoots 95 vld bergers great. walt said the 95 vld would never work in a 10 tw.

the longer VLD 100 gr ones wont have a good chance of stabilizing-however the shorter 100 gr bullets have a fair chance of working.

Thanks for the info guys

Free floated the barrel.. shot worse actually... bought some anmo that shot 1.5" and sent it down the line to a nephew..

Hornady 105gr HPBT stabilize fine in the 1-9.25” twist.

For that matter I had no issues with 105gr Beger VLD’s either.

The 95gr Beger VLD is a safe bet, but for general hunting the 95gr Nosler NBT is a monster of a bullet.

H4350 and a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.

If a .243 won’t shoot that, it’s time to look at mechanical issues.

Also, as Form said, it’s a heck of a hunting bullet too.
