Bear Spray comparison video

So I got curious and decided to go buy all the bear spray brands I could find.
Went out to a field, set up flags every 5 feet out to 40 and tested them all for spray pattern, spray duration, and distance. Here is the video if you've been wondering how they stack up.

Wind started out in my face from the right a bit on the first two cans, was sorta swirling on the third and was at my back for the remainder.
Outside temps were high 30s low 40s. Cans were at room temp up until we drove out and set up (approx 30mins)

I carry counter assault. Luckily I have never needed to deploy it on a bear, but I can tell you for certain it works like a hot damn on a mountain lion !!!

Counter assault would be one of the options I would buy after this. The larger can of Udap would be my first choice.

Agree with the larger size. Mine is the 10.2oz can.

The day I had to spray a lion it was at about 8 feet and coming.windy day (blew the spray back at me) but had zero time to adjust. I like how you tested with wind as it makes it apparent how it limits the companies "effective range".

When I was in the military, we used to get exposed to CS gas. Bear spray is far worse.

2 pack of UDAP for $30-40 at Costco tough to beat price wise. That video solidifies in my mind it’s a decent product for range/duration.

I concur. And as should be pretty obvious in the video, there ain't much in the cans so carry a spare in your pack if bear spray is your only defense option.

I think two things limited the range. Cold day probably lowered the can pressure some, how much, I'm not certain yet. Once it warms up, I'll grab another can of the UDAP and repeat to see how much ambient temps can affect the distance. Second, like you say, is the wind. You can clearly see in the video how quickly wind starts to move the cloud around and it was a very light wind. 15 -20 mph and things could get real interesting. Guess I better head to costco for a few more testers....
