Currently I have been considering building a 6 mm for basically what you are saying. For easy peasy, it seems the quick answer is 6CM.
In 6CM the recoil may be a little more because your pushing it faster, but if you roll your own you can simply load it a on the low side. As previously proposed 200 fps slower.
The other suggestion is 6 ARC. Keep in mind factory ammo is 52,000 psi gas gun appropriate ammo. If you bolt gun it, you can load them 60,000. So if you load your own it can really stretch the performance envelope of the cartridge. Extremely efficient. The recoil will be absolutely minimal . So I think a lot of building one problem is the damage.445 bolt face.
So if you want to use a .473 bolt face and you reload then the fun begins. The 6 BRA, The 6 GT. Great balance between performance and recoil. Downside is you won’t find ammo at the gun shop. If you like to load these things can be awesome.
I am struggling with this my self, and before the year end you can pick up a Solus Action for $650 before taxes.
I have a lot of AR’s and I have several 6.5 Grendel’s. Actually 264 LBC chambers, but in the performance window these things are awesome. Never made the jump to 6 ARC because when you put their performance side by side the slight increase in long range performance just can’t justify the intended use as I can put 130’s down the Grendel.
If you lower your cutters you plan on taking the new 22 ARC is a neat platform as well. Shooting 62 gr ELD VT bullets at 3,300 fps. The new ELD VT bullets are really something.
That were I am at should I build a 6 mm bolt , or go with the 22 ARC , which would be a hoot. If I’m going to go with a new bolt gun I’ll need to do it soon. Solus action will only be on sale till end of year.
If I go 22 ARC, I would just build a 22” upper . Decisions. Decisions.
