Curious if anyone is using a base on there Tikka, instead of using rings that work with the Dovetail on the receiver.

I was thinking base and rings would be more stable and rigid. But I am concerned that the addition of a base may set the scope to high for me. Anyone running a base? What rings are you using with it (Low, Medium, High)?

Thanks.

I have been very happy with the Elite 20 moa rail from Mountain Tactical. The Elite is a steel rail. I recently swapped that for their Performance rail which is aluminum. 4+ ounces lighter and am curious to see how it works out. Shouldn't really be much change.

All of their rails have an integral recoil lug that fits the top of the receiver and the machining is pretty darn nice.

I use Vortex precision matched rings in medium height and the 50mm bell of my scope clears the barrel by about a quarter of an inch. On the factory Tikka stock I did feel like I was hovering a little and not getting a proper cheek weld so I added a padded stock pack and a 3/8 inch strip of closed cell foam under it. I immediately noticed a firmer more comfortable shooting position.

If I did it all again I would look really hard at the xtreme hardcore gear rail with the integral bubble level.

Check out the article I wrote on the rail from Xtremehardcoregear.com

I have them on a couple Tikkas and really like them.

Second that on the Performance rail from Mtn Tactical, I'm trying Leupold PRW mediums with a VX3 3.5x10x40mm (OOPS) - I'll give you feedback on the match as soon as I get it all mounted - I saw that xtreme harcore base too, looks really good

I have the Deadnutz Gamereaper one piece on my Tikka 7-08.
Low mount is perfect for Nikon Monarch 44mm bell.
Great 1-piece mount.
I have an EGW picatinny/weaver rail (flat, not 20MOA) that I bought an never used.
Model #44000
Still in the package.
Want to buy it?

Being that you are from Montana, your best bet for anything Tikka related is to go see Jayson and Mountain Tactical. He's just west of Bozeman in 4-corners. He's a great guy, knows his stuff and is the first place I go to for anything related to my Tikka.

I use direct mounts for my tikka. I used Warne for my 40mm scope but wen I went to 50mm and 30mm tube the talley gave me perfect clearance. I don't see a purpose in using a base unless trying to use a 20moa to gain scope adjustment. Even then most scopes designed for longrange will get you out pretty far. I don't feel the tikka is a 1000 yard rifle, it's meant to be a lightweight rifle so why add weight you don't need...

I bought the EGW rail so I could switch out longer-range scopes for load development.
