Base Camp Bathrooms - What's the best set-up?

I'm working on gathering gear for my first elk hunt with a group of fellow first-timers for Colorado 3rd rifle, and I was wondering what everyone preferred for a base camp toilet. We are going to be sleeping in a wall tent and will be using a pop-up hunting blind for a bathroom shelter. What have you done in the past that was the most comfortable, easiest to set-up, sturdiest, cleanest, etc? Bag in a bucket? Plywood box with an Amazon toilet seat? Dig a hole under a folding chair?

Thanks for any advice that will improve our experience in the mountains!

I'm a hole digging, tree leaning typa guy.

Whatever you end up doing, please just clean up after yourselves haha. The amount of 5 gallon shit-filled buckets I've encountered near dispersed camping sites is astounding. Good luck this season!

Pro tip…dig the hole deeper than you think you need.

We use one of these, just dig a hole deeper than you think you will need. Put the dirt you took out of the hole next to it and then add a little on top after each use. The one we have folds up like a folding chair when not in use.

Took a green Adirondack plastic chair, cut hole in it and mounted a nice toilet seat...dig a hole with a view and it's hard to beat.

I'm usually a dig a hole where ever I'm at guy. But one year, when it was cold and solo, I brought a bucket toilet. That was pretty dang nice to bring into a warm tent in the AM, then just leave it outside behind the tent the during the day.

A few years ago we took one of those with us. We cut the bottom out of the bucket and dug a deep narrow hole and set the bucket on top of it and just tossed a shovelful of dirt in the hole after every use. Worked fine.

How many people in your group?
Dig a deep hole, every day sprinkle some lime over your waste and a sprinkle of dirt,
We had a two man base camp in Alaska for 10 days and no lime because of weight limit on our plane and it got pretty nasty with flies
A zip lock or two full of lime should work.

We are going to have 6 guys so it might take a couple of holes over the week we'll be there haha. We'll be in Colorado in November and I'm hoping the flies won't be too bad, but having lime on hand sounds like a good idea.

I think I'm leaning towards this option currently. I found one on Amazon for $30, and it seems like it will pack better and be more stable than a bucket.

I dig a hole when possible, some ground is super rocky and it is tough to get down real deep. I also carry a WalMart folding toilet with the Reliance Double Doodie bags. This allows me to use it inside the tent if needed for warmth and privacy. Bags run about $3 each so it can add up with 6 people. The bags work well and you can throw them away in the trash on your way home. I was in CO last week and the ground was super rocky.

I hadn't thought about the rocks, so that's a good point. I was anticipating the possibility of the ground being frozen, so we're going to have a digging iron and a full-size shovel with us to break through any tough ground.

We also set up a portable blind for bathroom. Started with bucket w/ seat, then changed to the fold up commode like in post #5. Last year we went back to bucket.

We use these liners and bag everything, then throw in dumpster.

Insist on everyone crapping in the field as much as possible. Saves on bag changes. Some lime for the smell and flys help after each ise
