Barrett Fieldcraft at Home

Fieldcrafts are overrated. I will put my CA Ridgeline FFT Ti w/20" carbon bbl in 308 Winchester up against anyone's FC. 5 lbs and shoots under 1/2" with just about any factory ammo. Ti and carbon. Carries and handles great. Got a Backcountry can on it. What more could anyone want for under 3K?

CA is one of those manufacturers that can go either way. You either get a bang up rifle or a paperweight that keeps going in for warranty work.

I don’t doubt that they can make/have made good rifles, I just can’t see myself gambling on them personally.

And you would still have a free floating barrel if you got a good one.

That proof elevation rifle might be enticing if proof shitcanned that stock and used one like the fieldcraft. I think i'd need a 4" longer trigger finger to be happy with the grip on that proof.

The Proof stock is actually not as funky as it looks in that picture. I have 2 of them and they have become my favorite stock, I just wish they would inlet them for a non-CF barrel. FYI I have normal size hands and don't have any problems with the LOP on them, I like em (y)

Lots of people are fine with or like stocks like that. Christensen mesa/ridgeline is another with a really long grip like that. I had a custom in a manners EH3 that has a similar grip and I really disliked it. Great for carrying and feels like most people want a stock to feel when shouldering a gun but there is basically zero support from the vertical part of the grip for trigger hand if you want to be able to manipulate the rifle with that hand and make a 90 degree trigger press. It's functionally like a straight grip that you might make a little contact with the pistol portion to me.
