Barrett Fieldcraft at Home

I’ve recently become enamored with the Fieldcraft rifles but at the current used market prices I don’t see them being worth it when you can essentially do a full custom for the same price. I like the super light setup with a short, fast twist threaded barrel. I’ve looked at the Wilson NULA’s but they just don’t seem to have the same magic as the Fieldcraft.

I am toying with the idea of just building a 16-18” 7tw 243 or 8tw 7mm-08 “clone” to scratch the itch. Ideally it would have a sub 90 degree throw. Something along the lines of a SKLTN action or similar. AG privateer stock?

At this point it’s just a brainchild, but I’d like to see what folks have done for a similar setup. I’m interested to hear what your build list was and bare rifle weight.

Just buy the Fieldcraft. They hold value, custom builds don’t.

I have a Fieldcraft in 7mm-08. I recently handled a proof research elevation 2.0 with the hunter stock in 308. They feel very comparable in my hands. Obviously the barrels are way different, but actions,
stocks, and triggers are comparable.

Also, I love the Sako 90 adventure. I’ve handled them as well. Trigger and action are excellent. Fiberglass stock with adjustable cheek piece. Everyone here knows how tikkas and sakos just shoot (mostly). May be worth a look if you can find one.

Yeah, I didn’t get it when they came out but I get it now and wishing I had picked one up.

I don’t believe either of those offers the combination of 5lb rifle with a fast twist and short barrel that the Fieldcraft offers

I like the custom chassis guns but decided I could not out shoot my fieldcrafts.Plus i have always done shit different,I have always had a awesome truck but it’s usually 10-20 years old.My bow is a 2006 sbxt that’s been redone to better than new.
I like different stuff and it’s hard to do that when your chassis gun looks just like everyone else’s.
If I was a serious competitor in a shooting league maybe I would do something different.

That proof elevation rifle might be enticing if proof shitcanned that stock and used one like the fieldcraft. I think i'd need a 4" longer trigger finger to be happy with the grip on that proof.

At that point why not just build one yourself with a Zermatt action like they use? As far as I know, the stock is the only "proprietary" item on the Proof rifles. I've certainly been wrong before though. Comparing the two pictures, the angle and length of that wrist section look awful on the Proof.
