First off I want to thank you guys. This website has cut my backcountry learning curve tremendously.

I am heading to Idaho on June 15th for a week of spring bear hunting. I will be spotting and stalking but I am considering setting up a bait with a camera on it and letting it soak for a few days. What are your thoughts? I would still have to work out the logistics but I think it might be worth a shot. I am aware that Idaho requires a baiting permit and plan on doing it totally legal if I do it at all.

Packing bait into the backcountry in Idaho is a job that you have to commit to. May take a week IMO to get a “cold” bait sight started. If you could find a kill site, you might throw up a camera. You should check the regulations on that first.

I'd say go for it. Might end up being a waste of time, but it gives you another chance to harvest a bear. You can spot n stalk, check your bait, then go back to spotting. Only downside is that you might be less mobile if you determine that there isn't any bear activity in your chosen area.
