With the price of those shades now, your sitting on a gold mine. I dont mind people dicking around at my expense, I do the same at times!OK.... I gotta come clean. I made the long sunshade pic just to dick with casey. I had to scotch tape a bunch of 2 inch shades together on the top and side away from the camera, so they'd stay together long enuff to pose the fake pic. I'm still snickering, tho.....

I think we need a trends forum.I get what your saying, we have a subforum for firearms, and yet people choose to post about firearms in the general forum all the time!!!! Imagine that!!
My only .22.
Needs a 56mm objectiveI have a Browning X Bolt Stalker with a SWFA 10x on it and I hate the way it looks but love the way it performs. So I leave it as is.
I guess now that I see it in a picture it doesnt look half bad.

How is a higher magnification more useful in lower light? The exit pupil is smaller.Useful to last legal light, no matter the environment/weather.
OP is talking about scope size, not magnification. How is a higher magnification more useful in lower light? The exit pupil is smaller.
Maybe I'm not understanding because OP specifies high magnification ranges.OP is talking about scope size, not magnification.
I read longer than barrel and heavy. Didn't pay attention to mag range. I personally prefer 2.5 or 3 to 12-15ish,Maybe I'm not understanding because OP specifies high magnification ranges.
I hear what the OP is saying and agree with him. With that said, ook at the trend in the industry. Everything is moving to more magnification and _HEAVY_. I've made the mistake of putting a 30 oz scope on a Tikka T3x light. It definitely upsets the balance of the rig. That alone has caused me to pay attention to weight and length of the scope. Vendors want to tout 30mm+ tubes and miles of erector travel.
He was a very young man. Early teens I would say. I didn't say anything. My original post here was just an observation, not a condemnation of somebody's choices. They are personal, just as my opinion on the subject. As I age, I like light, compact rifles more and more. It just seems counter productive to burden them with a heavy, long scope. I'm slowly losing my ability to walk because of degenerative bone disease in my lower back. I'm pretty much forced to go light and be less mobile more than any time in my life. As I said, it's just a observation. It is however becoming more imperative to me because of the health problems. What did the guy say when you brought this up to him on the forum where you saw it?
