They were terrible for sure.
Before I got a pair of Herman Survivors I didn't have any boots but I remember being pretty darn happy with them. I guess my boot bar was pretty low, as a matter of fact the hunting clothes bar was even lower, Lol no wonder I demand high performance gear nowadays!

What’s the age limit to be considered an old dude here? At 48 I’m guessing I’m still a youngster. Though I enjoy reading about the exploits of you guys. @mtwarden is one that comes to mind right off. I hope to be pushing as hard as he does right up until the end.

Although I do not consider myself to be at the old stage yet...until the grandkids show up, they see things different.

At least we are no irrelevant old dead guys like the founding fathers....right?
Read that post again. I didn’t say irrelevant. They are just old and dead.

More importantly, let’s not ruin this thread with politics. It’d be silly and unbecoming of a distinguished fella such as yourself. 😃

I know what you said.....'what the old dead guys said is irrelevant today'. Very disrespectful comment.

Let’s not be childish. I thought you didn’t want to engage? It’s ok though, even this kid forgets things occasionally.

I am not engaging you I am pointing out just what you are.

No witty comeback will erase your disrespect for the founders of this nation.

Learn to control yourself. This thread was not started for politics. I replied to it because I like to hear about people still doing what they love to do beyond the years that most folks quit. You don’t need to drag your dogma into every thread.

If you’d like to relive the glory of an old pointless thread you can do so by opening the picture below. Now I’ll take my leave of you and this idiotic back and forth. Bye.

Wybo, discussing things you have said does not equate to politics. For someone who constantly insults others it is interesting to see talk about self control.

I try to backpack twice a week on ridgetops where it is windy and cool so
no mosquitoes on most hikes.
This was from Monday. No mosquitoes and also no other hikers...
one of the benefits of being retired is weekday hikes with less traffic/people.
I saw one other vehicle on the drive up. Smoke was from the tundra fires in SW Alaska.
Interior AK has gone 30 straight days with no precip, so the wildfires could crank up with thunderstorms.

I think one of the important things to do as you get up in age is to remain active on a weekly basis. I’m fortunate to have a job outside where I’m climbing hills just about ever day. It’s great for the lungs, legs, and heart! I dread the day I’m physically unable to head to remote, gorgeous country with a pack strapped to my back.

I didn't start back pack hunting until 7 years ago at 56. 63 in a few days and I have caught the bug bad! Don't wait... it doesn't get easier..

At 62 last August for Yukon Sheep... with my boy who can haul heavyScreen Shot 2022-06-26 at 9.58.16 PM.png
7 years ago with a Yukon Caribou and two young packers, the boy is still coming with me and is now a 200 pound hauling monster. That really helps. I was 35 pounds heavier then... It really helps to get rid of the lard when you are an older back pack hunter

My boy today..he drew a sheep tag and I am hauling for him now! It's great to have a sturdy younger partner when you are old. I am 6'3" tall... no telling how tall that boy is!

It's also important to have a reliable training partner. If you don't put in the miles you wont do well when older!

Good gear helps too. Everything I own is light-weight.

Really like the look of those Llamas though!

62 and still driving hard, mainly Alaska wilderness trips now.
Leave for the AK bush end of August for a three week wilderness float trip down the Aniak river.
