First time elk hunter here and with all the talk about running into other hunters while hunting in Colorado I was wondering for those of you that leave your camp and gear to hunt for the day have you ever had issues with ppl stealing anything from your camp? Or your whole camp?

Over the last 15 years or so, never had a problem. We've had good size base camps and small spike camps in the back country. We've left camps up the entire archery season and worked during the week, and hunted the weekends without any problems. I probably just jinxed myself.

Off the beaten path I don't sorry, right next to a dead end rough road I worry some but not a lot, near a well traveled improved road I worry a lot. Never met a criminal that wasn't lazy!

once you get far enough in just about everything is as safe as home. i have seen open tent flaps with rifles inside many times and no one around.

i have heard of problems near the road and at camps that are with in 2 hours of the road.
