Back Quivers

Brandon,

If you are talking about a back quiver that will sit parallel to your spine, then any style will work if you add another strap to it so that the straps sit like those on a backpack. Some quiver makers also make them that way. You can also modify a side quiver (plains style or the ones made from a tube) to ride the same way on your back.

If you are talking about what style quiver holds the most arrows, then check out the custom back quiver makers to see what they have or if they will make one to your specifications. Just make sure the style is wider at the top than at the bottom to leave room for the fletching. This guy does excellent work and you will have something that will last a lifetime...http://www.hidehandler.com/back_quivers.htm

I have been through a lot of these back quivers. Personally Im a huge fan of deploying arrows from my back. Its part what I consider my muscle memory.
The one I found that works best for me is the Black Widow safari Quiver. https://blackwidowbows.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=361

Its comfortable, secure, holds a lot of arrows and is capable of holding broadhead Arrows as it has a hard plastic tube inside. This also helps seperate arrows from broadheads or blunts ect. ect.

Also this has an outside pocket for gear or what not.

+1 for Steve Catts leather work. I have a Lakota hunter and two hip quivers that are top shelf. (His belts are so so.)

I wish I could like a back quiver. I think they look great and I admire those that can effectively use them in the field. They just don't work for me hunting or practicing.

Thanks, guys. I actually want a leather interior and MOLLE webbing on it to attach whatever I want but Steve won't do it and I know of no one that can, for a reasonable price.

I had that goprimal quiver for a while. Its cool and all but it was very tight. Its nice though for attaching to packs and such.

I think your best bet would be to put a simple leather back quiver (if you REALLY need it to be leather inside) of a MOLLE rifle or shotgun scabbard and add a second shoulder strap to it so it will ride vertically along your spine. Here are some examples that might work:

Also, this guy made his own from some products on the Tactical Tailor website: http://thinblueflorida.com/?p=6561

Good luck in your search and thinking outside the box,

Or, make it yourself. Start with a quiver kit from ThreeRiversArchery.Com
http://www.3riversarchery.com/Expedition+Style+Leather+Back+Quiver+Kit_i5061_baseitem.html

then attach a molle panel from Blue Ridge Overland Gear to give you the molle attachment points you want.

A Google search on MOLLE panels will give you a number of other options to choose from, including a company that makes the panels for gun safes who will make it to your dimensions.

Total cost: $150 plus tax and a Saturday afternoon

Nice, Larry! Leather is better for broadheads and Judos and a single layer would suffice. I was thinking just sew the webbing to the leather with that 3R kit or some veggie tanned stuff like Steve uses. That 8-9 oz. stuff isn't cheap but it sure is nice.

I hunted with one for a few years and it's really noisy. I now use it for storage and 3D. I currently been using an absorkee quiver and sometimes a big Jim strap on quiver.

Howard Hill filled his with buckwheat hulls or rice or chaff or whatever. You are more of a man than me to wear a strap on, J.K.

Hill and others did that to keep the shafts from rattling in the quiver and to keep the broadheads from rubbing against each other and getting dull. Putting a block of styrofoam in the bottom of the quiver will take take care of the broadhead issue, as well as protect the bottom from getting cut/punctured. A ring of fur like shearling around the top of the quiver can keep the shaft in place and stop them from rattling.

You might look at Bison Gear, they have a back quiver designed to work with packs.. Not quite exactly what you're describing, but I think they do a little custom work, might be able to get it built the way you want it...

May want to check out Rancho Safari....I have been using his stuff for 2 decades. He may be able to do something custom as well.
