The pickup started a little haggard this morning on the way to work at 630, at least it wasn't windy up on the hill where I live.

12 feels like -6. Supposed to drop 20-30 degrees later when the wind picks up though and the storm actually comes through.

The interesting part is in the collateral damage. This morning my stock water tanks had an inch of ice on them with two electric heaters in the tank working. All the horses were covered with hoar frost and quite irritable. The barn cat was between two bales of hay voicing her displeasure. At 45 minutes of enjoyment I went back to the house, took my three layers of carhardts off, and reloaded the stove. There should be a higher quality of tv on days like this. Maybe all war movies.

-21F here in SD when I woke up this morning. It will be 60 degrees warmer when I'm elk hunting next week in the black hills.

You fellas west keep warm. In the 30s here and a wet snow, rain, sleet mix supposed to drop off tomorrow into the single digits.

Back in 1989 after another -44 stretch, I had to go to Townsend to buy some hay. My son was about 5. He went out to the fence while I was paying the rancher and asked why there was a rake next to the water trough. The answer was after a week of the butal cold weather during the warmer weather that followed the cows would come to the tank for water. While drinking their frozen ears would fall off and the rake was to keep the tank clear. I learned later that most of the calves had their tails fall off too.

Pony Soldier. About 5 years ago I switched to a Bar Bar A waterer and couldn't be happier. No heat and only a very minor occasional problem. Working great during this cold weather.
