Front carry is terrible once they are past about ten pounds. I bought a used Deuter on craigslist, pulled the waist and shoulder straps off of it, and strapped it to me Seek Outside Revolution. Works great.

Check out Mission Critical Baby Carriers. They have 2 lines: the S.01 Action and S.02 Adventure. Front or back carry, so you can change as they get older/heavier, and all sorts of integrated accessorimy backpacks, pouches, ect ect. We just had our first, and this thing has been great so far.

I retrofitted some cheap one we got at our baby shower to my Stone Glacier and I love it. We used an Osprey we rented in AK last summer but it still was not as comfortable as my Stone Glacier. The bottom popped into the meat shelf and the straps fit pretty much perfect for where it was supposed to connect to the bag as well as the load lifters. I’m considering just cutting the actual shoulder straps off on the kid carrier since we don’t use it. Front carrier works well when they’re little little, but once they have that head control mine liked being up high where he could see something on my back

I killed close to 20 pheasants with my son on my back this fall. Get something comfy and take them with, you won’t regret it.

I have a kelty ridgeline and another one that I am forgetting the name of right now. Both are awesome- Kelty is heavier but beefier and lets me load up on snacks. I got em both for dirt cheap at a consignment shop that didnt know what they had.

We tried a bunch of front carriers, eventually settled on the Beco. Dueter when they got big.

Go cheap on the front carrier. They won't be in it long and while they are in it you wont be going far. When they are old enough get a solid kid carrier backpack. I have an osprey poco plus that I really like. You will be able to get a lot more use out of the backpack (years) for longer and when the kids are heavier than with a front carrier (months). Be sure to get one that has lots of storage space too, you wont get far with out way too many snacks for the kids. Plus all the other things you want to bring with.

I got a 36" waist and couldn't find one that the hip pads even covered my whole hip. Went to REI and tried them all on (Deuter, Osprey, Kelty) and they were all that way. The best one for me and my size was the Deuter - we got the top end one not sure of the model. It's still far from great.

I think the best way to go if you're a fairly large human is by looking at some of the recommendations by people that rigged things up with their hunting packs. Buy a few cheap kid carries and find which one works best and send the other back.

As far as front carry ones, get an ergo. We've actually hauled a 3 year old in one (on back) several miles without a problem. Handy if you have a couple kids within a few years. And you can resale them things for a minimal loss.

This is basically it.

Meat shelf thingy around the bottom of the kid frame, up to the top of the hunt pack frame, cross straps around kid frame, like a squirmygigglyhungry bundle of meat.

My wife uses the Ergobaby Omni. it does chest and back carry.. Our baby just turned 10 months

My wife works in the garden and shoots her bow with the baby on her back. At 10 months the baby is too big to do yard work with the baby on her chest

We have a Backpack carrier for hiking now that the baby is big enough

My wife and I are due for our first in March.
What have yall found to work? Backpack style or front carry?
Any specific brand and model would be greatly appreciated!

Deuter for sure. I take my 4 year old pheasant hunting with it for when his legs get tired. Does a good job of distributing the weight.

I took a chance on an Amazon ad I saw for a Mission Critical 2.0 baby carrier. Worked well when he was small on the front, and still works well when he gets tired of hiking and gets on my back. Easy to adjust and has a backpack like storage on the opposite child for essentials.
