Rifle mounted Bipod or Carry a Tripod?

These days I carry a javelin most of the time on my bino harness. If I end up taking a shot prone more often than not I just use my pack with my support hand or bino harness as the rear bag. I’ve probably only shot 6 or 7 game animals off a bipod, which is small percentage of the animals I’ve shot from prone. I do like having the option to use it and it’s a solid rifle kickstand during glassing sessions most of the time.

Both, all my range time is usually shooting off a bipod and from time to time of a tripod just to practice different positions. If I can choose ideal conditions it’s bipod, shooting prone with some kind or rear support. Also always carry a tripod for glassing so it’s good to have options

I just hate setting my rifle down without a bipod on. Walking a ridge and glassing every 25-50 yards to get new angles on a hillside is just easier to set the gun down with a bipod. The few hunts I’ve tried without one it felt strange. Especially in burns or very rocky terrain. Worth the weight penalty in my mind to bring it. I also carry a tripod, and practice shooting with it often. That being said, the last deer I shot I took the bipod off and shot off my pack.

I use a tripod. I already have it for binos and spotting scope, so I might as well use it for my rifle as well. Why carry anything extra.

I carry a tripod and bipod. I'm almost certainly going to ditch the bipod on the mountain hunts - I've never even taken it out of my backpack and weighs 14.57 ounces. Also considering I have Wiser Precision Quick-Stix.

I have a death grip that I use when sitting where a longer shot is possible. Also nice when I have a young shooter with me. Have a bog dog mono that I usually use when on the move.

When I'm prairie hunting the tripod is always going with me. We shoot most of our deer off tripods.

Last year I started using the Wiser Quick Clip and my trekking poles shooting seated and backpack hunting. Works super well.

Shooting prone I use the S2H method. Off the pack or pack UL shooting bag combo.

Carrying a bipod to just shoot prone doesn't make sense.

I prefer to shoot off a bag that is draped over the tripod apex, in most cases.

That sounds like a simple setup, I’m thinking of switching my shooting gear to wiser quickstix, mdt traveller bag over the tripod and pack instead of bipod.

Very simple, and I love that is decouples the rifle from the tripod for mobility and recoil control purposes.

Been hunting mule deer and elk in Colorado for two years now. I trained shooting prone with a bipod but I find it very uncomfortable on my neck. I've got a rock solid RRS tripod/Anvil head, and have had excellent success with a standing 365yd shot in bad light, a kneeling shot at 200yds, and a sitting fairly steep uphill shot 435 yds. All resulted in kills. This season I'm leaving my bipod in the truck.

I never carry a bipod anymore and sold the two I had. I have an Arca plate up where my bipod used to be and carry a tripod when rifle hunting. More solid and versatile for shooting, plus I can glass from it. If I carry my lightest ( 624 + Tricer LP ), it's close to the weight of a bipod too. Cannot imagine ever going back to a bipod.

I listened to Form's podcast with the EXO boys on shooting technique.

I've noticed the whole recoil not coming straight back when clipped into a tripod or a bipod. But never have thought it hurt overall accuracy.

Pretty sure my mind will be blown at S2HU.

Won't bother adding a rail to my trainer rifle.

I carry both. Bog pod with a clamp are very secure and are great for long range shots. But if I have to do a spot and stalk where I need to drop my pack, prefer a bipod for lighter loads and quicker setup

A rail certainly helps the rifle track straight back on bags during recoil.
