I just looked at those at a local store out here in Boise, they look and feel really nice. That being said I haven't used one but the guy working had his personal backcountry lite there and looked like it had been beat to death but was still super smooth if that helps at all.

Yes. Super impressed with the features and stability. At some point I’m going to do a comparison with the 4-5 other tripods I have here to put some numbers on it but I’m running out of time before season starts.

I just started using a tripod last year and I'm 6'4" do you think having one tall enough to stand behind is worth it? My current one is not mainly because of cost, how few options I found and then the overall size.

I’m a big believer in versatility. I rarely stand and glass but sometimes it is inevitable so I make sure I have a tripod I can use standing. That is one of the things most appealing to me about the Front Country. I am 6’1” and there is a lot of room left for stand up glassing. I alway try to be as low as possible and extend the thickest legs first and avoid the center extensions any time possible. I don’t have any tiny tripods left; the few ounces saved to me is not worth it. I can make that up with a healthy morning constitutional…

I used it all season and absolutely loved it. It's as light as other backcountry tripods, despite being marketed as "front country." While this sounds like a paid ad, I bought mine at full retail and do not know nor have I spoke to Ridell, the owner.

A few big highlights for me: the height allows you to stand and glass or sit on a chair and glass if you're peering through weeds and brush.

I also really like that the center post can be shortened in the field for shooting.

I am also a big fan of the Front Country ball head. It's actually the only ball head I'd consider for glassing. It allows you to lock the ball feature so it acts more like a pan and tilt head while glassing. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a way to put a handle on the glass so you're moving your glass with your hand on the objective. It takes a little getting used to, but I think it's a slick system overall.

I ended up buying one a few weeks ago and love it in my limited use. I grabbed a FC ballhead and a Tricer LP to try on it. Currently has the smallrig head on it, but not super impressed with it with my 86mm spotter.

The handle situation on the ballhead was solved in this thread. Basically just adapting a handle setup from a cheaper head.

Have you had a chance to use the Tricer AD. It saves about 5oz over the Front country. I like the ability to stand while glassing so the front country is appealing but if the AD is just as stable and I can save a little that would be ideal.

Anyone shooting off the front country? How do you like it? My lightweight backpacking tripods are not the best for shooting off.

I was thinking of picking up a tripod that can be used to glass and shoot off of for when I am not backpack hunting.

I know the Aziak owner shoots off the FC all the time. I’ve not shot off any tripod.
