Hello everyone, long time reader first time posting. I am new to big game hunting. I am in AZ and have an OTC deer tag for archery. I was thinking of heading to the AZ wilderness and heading to Reavis Ranch to look for deer. Figured the apples and creek are good environment for deer. Does anyone have experience with this area asthe best area to appraoch. I know 172A trail head but don’t know how far back Reavis ranch is and am having a hard time finding a distance. Any other advice is welcome.

If you were a long time reader you would have known that unit and area specific information posts are against the site rules.
My apologies. Long time as in 2 weeks. IT was a reference to the whole radio long time listener first time caller thing. Still learning the ropes.

I have packed in there as a scout leader, pm for info on the hikes and trails. I have had tags in that unit for rifle. I won’t give you any specific advice about the hunt, but will share about Coues in general.

It’s an amazing place to backpack.

Thank you! I will send you a PM as soon as I have enough posts to do so.

Depending on details, I may be able to hike it with you. All the trailheads are about an hour or so away. It’s been years since I went in.

That would be cool with me. Are you saying the ranch is about an hour down the trail from the trail head? I definitely want to plan accordingly as I only know if one guaranteed water source which is the posted drip near the trailhead. Do you want to PM me? I would PM don’t think I can PM you until I have enough posts but have been unable to find that amount required.

Yeah we love it when a first post is asking for honey holes, always goes well
I mean, I picked the honey hole… just asked for distance and navigational insight. Personally, I doubt many people will target a wilderness several mile hiking area on unmaintained single track trails with limited water and no motor vehicle access. But I get it, people are worried it would be my only post or that it would be out there for the world to see and the place will be overrun or the hippies will try to ban hunting there or something. I was too excited and unfortunately read the rules after my first post. I am ashamed and have learned my lesson and will keep the “where” out int he future.
