My daughter drew a Unit 1 cow tag for early Oct. this year and I was wondering if there is anything we need to stop and see and do on the way there or coming back. We will be driving from Amarillo Tx out to Az. Let me know if anyone has made the trip and there is something not to far out of the way that you enjoy stopping at. Thanks.

Get yourself some NM style mex food in ALBQ. Drop down to the 60 on your way from ALBQ heading towards Springerville and stop in at Pie Town for some pie. Bosque del Apache Refuge is just south of Soccoro and the 60. Not sure what bird migration might be happening at that time if you're into that. I'll also say the drive taking the 60 is a nicer more scenic drive than coming in from the more northern option off the 40.

Can’t speak necessarily for the drive except for Pie Town, however if you have the time to explore around unit 1 I’d recommend bringing a fishing pole and trying out Big Lake. Or take the ski lift at Sunrise Ski Resort for a nice view at the top. Greer is also a nice town to visit, eat at Molly Butlers.
