Axis deer info, please

I hunted an Axis Doe on a Texas high fence ranch a few years ago. I would rather try to find a public access place to hunt. Meat was excellent.

BTW - I used a 243, which got the job done from 97 yards, but I would not try it again. If I get the chance again, I'll use my 270 for extra margin of error. Just my take.

Not really. While we cannot make an animal "more dead," we can make them easier to find. I want an exit wound for tracking purposes and didn't get one.

It was a good shot and she only made it about 20 yards away. She
had no visible wounds of any kind. We joked I scared her to death. If she had run a long way, we would have struggled to find her.

The 243 works great on Texas whitetail, but I want a little more oomph with an Axis.

There are two places is called Texas Hill Country Axis Hunts and Joshua Creek Ranch that both offer everything needed to acquire these animals.

Aloha, I hunted axis on Molokai on my honeymoon. (Yes, the wife is awesome and it was one of her fondest memories our time on the islands.) It was free range spot and stalk with a guide; a really good hunt. I rented a 300 WM and got a pretty decent buck, but was under the "trophy" minimum. I also took a nice doe later that afternoon, but that was from a stand. As far as eating, we rank it number one in our house. I'm sure their diet has something to do with flavor and we've eaten more than a few elk, antelope and deer that were all excellent. I booked with https://hawaiisafaris.com/ but didn't hunt with Patrick on that hunt. They are beautiful trophies as well.

Molokai definitely the best value for Hawaii just go with a reputable outfitter

Have hunted them for many years in Texas, free-ranging. Absolutely a blast to spot and stalk during the summer rut. Not quite as tasty as elk but absolutely blow whitetail out of the water as far as flavor. We sell a few hunts each year to help cover some expenses.

I’ve successfully hunted them on Lanai, but that island is in decline right now due to many factors. For a simple hunt, I don’t think you can beat Molokai guided. My neighbor has used 2 different outfitters over there for $1000 per day or less with everything included but his airfare. And he always comes back with 3+ animals. No trophies though.
