Hey Guys,

Mule deer hunting is something I'm still learning a lot about.
What would you say is your average shot distance for mule deer with a bow?

Thanks

I have only shot twice at muley bucks. One was 20 and the other was 30. I would shoot a lot farther but them are the two opportunities I have had so far.

Of the shots Ive taken or had over the last 35 years most have been 20-67 yards. most in that 35-50 range. It really just depends on the area Im hunting.

I would say mine is between 30 and 40 yards. Been closer to other bucks, but didn't shoot because I ultimately decided they were not something I wanted.

Cool thread. On my three good bucks, avg has been 55 yards with a low of 40 and a long of 65. I can't seem to get as close a BOHNTR :)

For mule deer my avg is right around 35 yards. Closest shot so far was 7 ft and furthest has been 55. Most of the rest have been around 30

Only have taken one mule deer so I did not vote being as one arrow is not a average. but one arrow + 74 yards +liver = dead buck so if my math is right I'm doing okay.

Sheesh--------------my average is 20 yards or below. Didn't see a category for that one.
Stay with the stick.

I've never really claimed to be a deer hunter, more of an opportunity tag for me. Dumping my points this year so might be able to start getting some tags. But with the leftover tags I've gotten, my average is about 21 yards.....but I haven't been chasing trophy bucks either. I'm sure if I was chasing alpine trophy muleys it would be quite a bit further. It's hard to go stealth mode with a 6'6" frame.:)

One at 19 yards, one at 39, one at 42...all average bucks. Couldn't get closer than 250 yards to the buck of my dreams. I guess that averages to about 30 yards, but the sample size is so small that 30 yards becomes a misnomer. 36 years with the stick and string...3 bucks. Not a great success rate...but then, no worse than average. My wife says I'm "selective".
