Aussie DIY hunt in the US

How difficult would it be for an Aussie to do a DIY, public land archery Elk hunt in the US?

I've got the time for research, I plan on doing it in 2024, but don't really even know where to start.

I was thinking about getting a guide but I've never done this and I like the idea of doing everything myself even if it is to the detriment of my hunt.

What agencies should I speak to about tags and or licenses? Are they state specific?

Is there anything I need to consider?

What I'm trying to say is my mind is open and I would love some ideas as to where to start and obviously all your best Elk spots (joke).

Game and fish…parks and wildlife…department of natural resources…states have different names for the folks who manage hunting in their states.

I would gladly help you in New Mexico but you will need to draw a tag, not easy or buy one, not cheap!

I would be happy to help you in Colorado. Over the counter ( show up and purchase one ) Elk archery tags are available in many units.
