At a loss here, help me pick an optic

Admittedly I'm out of the loop a bit on optics. Grew up on Leopold's like many but understand they are garbage these days.

I'm trying to pick a scope for a Mauser M18 in 30-06. Most of my hunting for now at least will be in east TX for whitetail and hogs at ranges less than 200 yards or so.

Are the Zeiss Conquest models a decent pick for that task, and do they actually hold zero and not require constant re zeroing if I dial the turrets like i have read here the Leupold's do? If this isn't a good scope what else is recommended without going all the way to a S&B which I would like to have just not on this $600 dollar rifle.

Haven’t seen one in person but from what I’ve read the M18 is a super cool rifle I’d love to own one. I wish they sold it in 7x57 over here in the US.

All opinions and preference, but if it were new to me I’d get some Warne rings and a Nightforce SHV 3-10.

It's a neat rifle for the price point. I picked mine up last year at $600 which was a good bit higher than what people were getting them for when they first came out in 2018. I see now they are getting scarce and are higher than even what I paid. For a budget rifle it is built well, and the stock isn't crap like most budget rifles have and most importantly consensus is from those that have shot theirs is that they damned accurate which is a plus. A 7x57 would be nice in one of them for sure. I finally got a 7x57 yesterday in an old Ruger M77 tang safety.

I went ahead and went with a Schmidt & Bender 3-12x42 for the Mauser.

The Conquest/Meopta will be great for your conditions, as would a heavy duplex Leupold or something else with a good duplex reticle. You don't need any of the recommended mils, moa, dots, hashes or any other crap like that given your criteria.

If I could, I would go for a Trijicon Credo 3-9x40.

I went with a cheap Burris FFIV 2.5-10x42. It’s not bad it’s just kinda meh
