Been using these cams for going on 5 seasons and pretty dang happy with them. Brock & Ryan are giving them a run this year, including the lastest release, EDGE 3 https://www.moultrie.com/edge-3-cellular-trail-camera

I've got Mark Olis recording an episode with me on Tues 7/29. If you have any questions, especially about the Edge Cellular line, post them here.

My question is "can you please get us the option to set upload times" and "can you please allow the battery meter to read lithiums"

any others?

Ask them about the viability of sending low resolution photos via satellite. I think this would be a great tool for trappers who operate in remote areas outside of cell coverage. If you could get a grainy photo of your set every 8 hours or so, it would be useful for planning your trap checks.

I'd be interested to hear his thoughts on ethics, regulation, and the future of cell cameras. With a 2 and 4 yo at home it's nice saving the card pull trips, but also feels wrong when you're picking a spot based on "immediate" information.

To me it all comes down to how "immediate" is defined. Personally I'd like to see game agencies get ahead of this with a delay timeframe. i.e. cell photos transfer with a 1-2 week rolling delay. This potential solution would have to come from the states as it wouldn't be in a cell cam companies best interest to handicap their products while others may not do so.

Interested to hear opinions from someone with a financial stake in their future.

I'll get these on the outline guys. Thanks!

OK I recorded the episode today but we didn’t do the questions on air because the episode was gonna run too long. But he was happy to answer them. Here’s yours :

We've been evaluating satellite communications for trail cameras, but given the current satellite limitations (requires direct visibility to the sky and has limited data transmission capabilities), we have not introduced a satellite model yet.

So all that to say, this is on the roadmap but there needs to be some technological improvements before we feel good about implementing it. At the end of the day, we want the customer to have a great experience. If we can’t rely on the technology to do that, then we won’t pass it along to the customer.”

And yours

Whenever new technologies come out, you’ll often see game agencies making rules and regulations across the board. Some of these can be knee-jerk, and others have merit. Some of the Western laws don’t seem to make sense; they just removed them entirely because they don’t want to mess with it or they aren’t sure how to regulate it. These cameras deliver intel to hunters; they don’t hunt for you. They are one more tool in a hunter’s kit. In many instances, cell cameras keep people from going to the wild more because the images are delivered cellularly to their app and they aren’t going out and pulling SD cards at more frequent intervals.

Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett have both reversed their stances on cell cams not being good for hunting. That says a lot when those two groups agree they are useful tools for hunters when appropriately used.”

Ask them the sales changes as a result of some states restricting camera usage.

Meaning “did sales go down when they banned or restricted Tcams”?

I’m pretty sure I can answer that one, so I wanna make sure I know what you mean 👊
Yes. In general, the use of trail cameras by hunters seems to be increasing over the last couple of years. So I would imagine their sales has been increasing, following the general industry trend. As a couple of states have banned or restricted their use in the last few years, have they seen any impact to their historical growth rate and total sales?
