I'm interested in hearing how you are repairing the the rips in the shoulder of the shell jacket. Are you sewing in patches and seam taping over those? What material would the patches be?

Very cool work, I like the 1" webbing handle on those pullouts! Thank you for sharing.

For the shoulder I used some aesthetically pleasing NOSO patches on the exterior link below:

And I backed them on the interior with a basics NOSO rectangular patch. They are heat activated and super easy to apply. I elected to not seam seal these as it would look like hammered dog sh!t in my opinion and I don’t think it’s necessary. I may do some seam grip waterproofer on the inside patch to help with adhesion and to prevent wear from rubbing on the jacket wearer as it is in a high use area. Pics below:

I repaired the bottom synch cord channel and re-taped that seam. That seam will get seam grip waterproofer applied to it as well. Before and after pics below:

Pulled and redid a big chunk of the seam tape on the hood as well. Everywhere that was rolled or showing signs of impending doom got a makeover.

This was a fun project for me to stretch my legs and gain new skills on. Shoutout to @Clarktar for trusting me with his baby and letting me experiment. Now to see how we it holds up to the beating he will continue to give it.

Decided to make one of my food bags out of ripstop nylon…the material is absolutely mind numbing To work with. Definitely more frustrating than trying to potty train a 2 yr old. Probably will only make a handful of these, ever.

That being said, I fit 20 dehydrated backpacking meals in their original packaging in this thing. The stretch of the fabric really allows you to stuff a lot in this size bag. Pretty nifty and a great pillow size if a guy wanted to ditch the inflatable pillow and stuff his puffy.

So far I'm pressed. It's been raining inches over here and the hood is no longer seeping. Windy to boot but now that I got a waist cinich I'm form fitted! However, I'm about to hang this up until it snows and put on the trusted rubber suit. This rain just keeps giving.

I need a stretch food bag.

Made a bag out of xpac material today. Think these are going to be pretty fantastic. Very water resistant damn near waterproof but they will weep water if submerged. Air tight though, so I’m doing something right!

Super cool stuff. Have you standardized sizing on the food bags at all or change it up?

I’ve standardized a large and a small. The large fits 7-10 days of food depending how you repackage your food and the small is great for rain and puffy layers.

Currently kicking around the idea of making an XL bag but not sure of a real world necessity for it or application.

What type of x pac did you use? How is it to work with?

Anyone wanting to make some pullouts for a fellow hunter? PM me.

I am a DIYer at heart. I try to do everything myself. But I just can’t seem to get the seeing thing.

V15. It is an absolute dream to work with. Probably my new favorite fabric.

Depends what exactly you’re after. Most guys making stuff at home aren’t going to beat the prices of the big brands online. Myself included, but if you want something particular that isn’t exactly online somewhere else, reach out to me. I’d be happy to work with you.

I currently have some spacer mesh, 500D cordura in various colors, and a pile of v15 x pac on hand.

This is the 500D cordura one without the grab handle. I’ll weigh the x pac large and small and the cordura with grab handle tonight.

Well, you've solidified my decision. I am going to buy a sewing machine. I have a couple of gear ideas that have been floating around in my head that I think would be useful. Time to find out if so.

Been busy with life and it being fall, but finally back in the saddle. Made a large bag with daisy chain attachment points on the face for a buddy who is a horse guide. He intends on strapping this directly behind his saddle and lashing it down with his pigging strings. Made from xpac with waterproof zipper, grab handle on top.

Below are a grey dyneema cuben fiber and blaze orange 500D cordura kill kits. The DCF one is pretty slick and light but DCF is not cheap these days. So hard to justify making a pile of these. The hobby continues!

How does V15 compare to the 500D or 1000D cordura?

It’s thinner, yet more stiff. Stays where you put it. Make a fold and it sticks. Just super easy to manipulate and get it to do what you want. I love it.

No idea. I have never worked with that fabric. Just hop on ripstop by the roll and have them send you samples of all the xpac they carry. It’s cheap and will give you a solid idea of what the fabric is.
