Arrow spine software says “too stiff.”

I know I have always said that you will get more accuracy at range with a weaker spine. However good luck putting a broadhead on the front and seeing the same thing. Can't compare field arrows to broadhead tipped hunting arrows. Even Easton has said the same thing with two different charts, one for field/target archery, another for hunting.

The difference in accuracy for me has normally been minimal. For a target bow I definitely run on the weak side, but a hunting setup I go stiff.

Yea I can understand if someone is “weak”. But what about optimal? Broadheads still not gonna fly?

The little bit I played with it previously ('16 I think) when it said I was optimal I had flight issues. Could be me, I tend to have a lot of face pressure.

I know the past few hunting setups that I had settled on when I ran them through AA it showed stiff.

If you are chasing x or ring count stay optimal to weak. For me and the several people I have helped tune hunting setups stiff is where you want to be. The difference isn't that much, when points matter it's one thing, but minute of deer, especially in situations that frequently aren't lending themselves to perfect form....

I'll put some viagra in the shaft. Like an old oak post you can hang a gate off of.

I really think if you can detect much difference in those you need to be making your money with a bow, or you have something else like a clearance issue going on.

Or it might be possible you have mislabeled shafts. I have seen that before, some shafts within a dozen mislabeled. Do you have your arrows labeled so you can see if it's a few arrows that are always outside the group?

Yeah. Test for yourself. I find shooting marked faces to really help. I have setups that I don't feel like are flying that well, but if you shoot a round and track the score they are same as others.

I have stacks of target faces that have my score and the details of what I was shooting. Let's me track improvements. Also shows sometimes where I dropped off.

It's hard to just look at things and determine what's best, for me anyways. Scores don't lie.

I’ve had bows that shot better with the exact same arrow an inch longer. The shorter ones worked, and grouped with field points, but the longer ones grouped tighter and still hit with field points. Bare shafts were consistently straighter and more consistent. I’ve always looked at it from a standpoint of too far to either extreme led to a lot of headaches. But like most everybody said, headaches with a fixed broadhead on a way too weak shaft are even worse.

Just my opinion, from a lot of trial and error.

Based on these photos I would shoot the 340 for sure. I have not done extensive testing because I find it just too costly to buy arrows for testing. I build my arrows using the software to spine just on the siff side of the green. I could drop some coin to buy more arrows but I'm happy with the results.
